I have posted this in the CDS, but I will also post it here as well.
This question is mostly for those who write or role play, but I had a question. In a completely hypothetical situation, would you purchase a program which creates a character for your books or role playing games/threads? I'm asking this question because I need to get some research on the market for this type of program- in my Computer IBS class, we are to create a program and a dossier which explains everything about the program. To make sure there is a market for this kind of program (this would be if I really did market it, our class will be treating it as a real business situation), I wish to ask you, the members of FFR, if you would purchase this program.
In the program, it starts you off with a blank character bio list (name, hair color, biography, items, clothing, eye color, etc) and a character diagram with slots for helm, armor, weapons, boots, etc. Using this program, one can draw from a database of items and weapons and physical characteristics, thus being able to quickly and efficiently create a character from scratch without having to sit down and create every single detail. As an avid role player myself, I know how long that takes (my most recent RP character, the one I submitted for the Shards of Time tourny in the RP Terminal, took at least a couple hours to come up with) Thus, this program will help those who's time is short and they need a character quickly. By selecting various physical and mental characteristics, background information, weapons, any personality traits, and various other biographical statistics, one can come up with a character in a short time. The various articles of clothing and armor and weapons will also have their own unique histories and biographical data. The item database will range from simple things such as a rough homespun cloak to elaborate items with long histories and fantastic names. The biographical data can then be edited to the uesr's leisure or to fit his or her tastes better.
So my question is, would you buy a program such as this if it existed? It would be mostly pointed towards writers, role players, game character designers, and other such occupations, but it would be a useful tool for anyone who writes in any way. Any comments would be welcome. |
