Also ADVERTISE. Go to other boards and on a lot of them you will find forums where you can advertise your own sites.
That's how I heard about this one, one of the members put a link on www.marvel-boards.com/boards where I Mod and I came to check it out.

Offer something on your site that isn't found on the Net easily or much at all. I.e. have something to offer, that people can't find elsewhere on the net. Then, make yourself publicly known (advertising + search engine submissions).
That's the most important thing, really...  |

Make sure also that you have search terms and a description to you forum pages. Like this...
My Example:

Make sure you have something like this under your title in the forums header. This increases people to come to your site because when someone searches with Google it sends a bot over your site looking for keywords in the html header and a description. If you do this it picks up you site much easier and shows it to the searcher. You can use mine, all you have to do is modify it. Your welcome. Peace.

That mainly keeps visitors returning to teh site rather than forums - to make a forum good, it has to have one of two things - something innovative, or many registered members. FFRepublic has both, although the members could increase in numbers.
I have a cunning plan to bring visitors to my site, but first, I'll need some spare time... Damn school work and ATC leaving me with such little time to myself... Bah! Meh!
