According to Japan's Nikkei Net (via IGN) and als the website Joystiq, Square Enix is working on a sequel to Final Fantasy XI. Joystiq reports that the upcoming MMORPG is being developed for PC (Vista), PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Prior to this revelation, Square Enix had hinted at a new MMO project, previewing a trailer featuring a 'next-gen' MMORPG engine. However, at this time, it's unclear if the FFXI sequel is indeed the game that will utilize this engine.
I'm just curious whether they'll be calling it Final Fantasy XI-2 or Final Fantasy XIV or giving it an entirely new name. Not that I'll be playing it; I make it a policy not to allow myself to get sucked into the soul-consuming vortex that is MMORPGing.
Oh poo, I didn't even remotely contemplate that this would happen. I'm annyoed about this simply ebcause I've got no money and no broadband, meaning there's no way I'm going to be able to play it.
What's known so far:
- it'll be cross-region (NA, EU, JP on same server again).
- it'll be cross-platform (360, PC confirmed, PS3 is a maybe).
- it'll run off Square's White Engine, same one used in FFXIII.
- it will not be a FFXI sequel.
Rumors:
- further details should be released around the end of Nov (after WoG releases)
