Roleplaying Terminal Rules and Guidelines
First of all let me begin by saying what I hope to achieve by putting these rules in place. I'm sure that all that post in RPT enjoy their RPs and such, but I'm not so sure that everyone is totally aware of the quality of many of the RPs here, having a glance through some I've seen horrendous grammar, total lack of detail, posts of only one line in length and various other things that drag down the overall of the roleplaying in RPT.
I think we'll all agree that we want this forum to be the best it can possibly be and make it an environment to encourage only the finest RPing and RP posts, as such it's necessary to deter people from making poor posts, that's where the rules come in, hopefully by getting stricter we'll drive out the poor quality elements and then we'll only be left with good, top class RPing and in turn that can only promote more of the same....
Post Quality
One liners and undetailed posts wouldn't be acceptable in Balamb Garden's would they? Well I personally don't think they're acceptable here, how can you roleplay effectively without detail, emotive language, vivid imagery and description to portray the scenes and actions? You can't, I'm not going to ask that every post be a thousand paragraphs long because that would be a bit unreasonable and I understand that sometimes a short and concise is necessary to redirect the story, but there's no place for a multitude of simple, overly and short and under detailed posts. Post like that consistently and it will count as spamming and will be dealt with as such, and if the RP becomes utterly littered with such posts then it will be moved to Sector 7 Playground where it may live on with its spam brethren.
In short,
undetailed and short posts are spam and spam will be treated in RPT just as it would be treated anywhere else on FFR, it simply will not be tolerated.
Ways to improve the quality of your posts
First and foremost the idea of roleplaying is to play out the role of a character, so get into character. What would your character be thinking in response to certain events and speech? What does your character feel? What does your character want? What can your character see, hear, taste and touch? How does your character relate to the way the story/adventure is progressing and the goal that he/she is striving to reach?
Consider these things and detail them as you see fit and you'll see it's not all too hard to improve your post from a one liner to a quality piece of writing that emphasises your character and adds to the RP greatly.
Oh, and for the love of God use a spell checker if you need to, there's nothing worse than a post full of typos and bastardisations of the English language, or even worse, "leet" speak.
Pacing and story progression
All stories must have an end and it's important that you make progress throughout your RP and keep the pacing consistent, not only because it will keep your RP fresh and exciting and keep all those involved interested, but no one's really going to appreciate 5 pages in which all you do is have a mindless chat and make absolutely no progression, making all those posts a waste of time...It's ok to have an open ended RP where you just improvise as you go along but it's important that things actually happen in it.
So if an RP doesn't progress and even after a reasonable amount of posts it's still going on in the same spot or rambling on about the same thing it may be subject to closure depending on each specific case. Threads in BG die away when each side of an argument becomes so exhausted of ideas that they can only simply repeat earlier points, well if repetition goes on consistently in RP threads then they too will die, by my hand.
Ways to keep your RP progressing
It's best to leave that up to thread starter to handle, if they have a storyline already planned out then collaborate with them via PMs and IM programs to find out exactly where the story is headed and let them take the story in the desired direction and go with the flow. If it's an open ended RP then just make up whatever events you want and just improvise, but it might be courteous to check with the thread starter beforehand just in case it upsets some plans they might have.
God Modding
I'm not so bothered about God modding in regular RPs as I am about it in RPB's (see the RPB rules and guidelines in the Calmlands for further detail on them) because it's all about story progression so a little manipulation of another's character might be ok if it constitutes to that progression, it doesn't have the same impact as manipulating your opponent in a battle would do (because that's just unfair obviously).
But still if you take huge control over another's character they probably won't appreciate it all that much, so I'd recommend talking to them about it first again via PMs or IM programs or something, but I won't be enforcing a God Modding rule in regular RPs, unless the thread starters specifies he wants to outlaw all god modding in his RP.
Repeat Threads
If there's a really similar RP around then just join that instead of starting a carbon copy of it, not only is it unnecessary but it's kind of cheap to rip someone else’s idea off, so yeah, repeat threads/knock-offs will be closed or moved to S7P. You could save yourself and us some trouble by outlining your basic idea or the concept of your RP in your opening post, that way you can easily highlight what makes your RP original and such, so it won't be moved and stuff.
Activity
If an RP goes unposted in for two months then it shall be closed/deleted to avoid having the forum cluttered with old and dead RPs. TO help maintain activity in RPs (including battles) I suggest you limit yourself to only participating in a maximum of 5 at any one time, that way you can be involved in quite a lot, should be able to maintain fair quality in your posts and be able to post actively.
Unsuitable Scenes
This can probably go unsaid, but any RPs where graphic sex scenes and the like are RPed out will instantly be destroyed, I don't think anyone needs to take character interaction that far.
So there you go, read through them carefully and get back to RPing, hopefully this will help improve things greatly.
-Note, these rules and guidelines are pretty old, expect them to be updated at some point-
- Turks - You missed the "" on the vb coding for the url and its closed tag so i just edited it in for you.
Edit By Blitzballer: A Correction to Simons Guidelines PLEASE NOTE..ANY RP that hasnt been replied to in over Three Weeks will be closed. Possibly a member of staff will PM the thread starter to inform them of this but, more often than not, it will be closed. RPs revolve around high activity or the excitement will be lost. |
