Welcome Final Fantasy fans and visitors. Yesterday, something rather disturbing took place here on the Final Fantasy Republic Forums. A highly respected forum member, staffer, and economic officer, Nick (AKA Eternal Doom, Odin, Evil Dark Odin, FATE) turned against the Final Fantasy Republic site and admininstration.
For those who knew Nick, you'd know he was a madly deep RPG fan. He was the person behind the supportative frames of the Roleplaying Terminal. He also supported training for the Battle System, and was a great detective against occurances here at FFR. Nick was with FFR since November of 2001, before our major server crash. Before yesterday, Nick could possibly be considered the all-time best member of the FFR Forums.
Awhile back, I gave Nick root access to the FFRepublic server because he was working on various sections and the FFVI game sector.
Yesterday he gained the password to the MYSQL Databases (root), by browsing a db_mysql.php file in the root directory. That single password was used under my username, afterlab, for the forums, AOL Instant Messenger, and admin control panel. He then passed on the password to Redmumba and Axion of Point-Blank (a long time enemy of ours). Redmumba and Axion used the password to gain CP access under my username, in which they boosted their usernames, Axeon and Redmumba, to "Administrator" status. From there, they could do many things.. However they did very little damage, apart from Nick did.
To keep the endless story short.. Nick betrayed FFR and Point-Blank helped trap him. All sources, evidence, and proof has pointed fingers both ways. However, from the stories of 4 people vs. 1 equals an answer. Nick will never return to FFR.
This is our story...
Edit by Aerosol:I can honestly say that I am disappointed and shocked that Nick would be so stupid as to stoop so low and give away someone's passwords. Afterlab has enough problems, and when there's a secuirty risk, you know there's going to be problems.
I just want to make this clear, Nick. I'm not happy you're gone, but now you've only proved my point on my we cannot let new member join the administration. You're one of those "new people" and now by betraying us, you've only made my point evident to Afterlab. I can say now that we can trust no one, not even the people we think we know.
Now as the second-in-command, I'd like to say that I'm sorry that Axeon and Redmumba were accused for this crime. They were merely acting on temptations. No one be afraid or mad at them - they've done nothing wrong.
Afterlab - e-mail me. (a3rosol@msn.com)

indeed it is. and what an odd story it is. how i even got intertwined in this whole ordeal is lost in the past.
but the forum is a different place now, and we all must move forward. hopefully this event can be used to foster better FFR-PB.CC relations. |

I deeply regret what he has done. He was such a good friend of most of us. Why did he do it? That's all I want to know. That's not the Nick I used to know. The Nick I used to know was kind and contributing. He gave alot to become what he was. Man......what a loss. I'll never forget you Nick. Peace.

Well, atleast we can make light of a difficult situation. If you study Odin's past transgressions, it all becomes frighteningly clear. And as Redmumba said, although we made ourselves Admins, nothing was done at all.
Hopefully, this can bring about a more positive atmosphere between our two sites.

| It is a weird time, Anthony. None of us really know why he did any of this, but his history of betrayal is quite known. |

| Yeah, I know. His story was kind of.....I don't know.....unbelievable. |

| Now that, I can believe. That sounds like the Nick I knew. |

| You gave somebody root access??!?!? I wouldn't give even my best friend root access to my server unless they're a linux expert but all in all a well learned lesson. No root access unless you know them in person or known them for at least a year via net and they are doing a service to your server. |

well. i have just come out of a chat with Nick. and while i really have no information as to why he did this, i have his last request. he requested i post this:
Quote:
Nick:
Let's not exaggerate this anymore. Indeed, the jig is up...but you must still all be in disarray at this. For even I do not understand why I have done this. I accept my punishment, it is well earned for my deeds. I would try to make amends, but there is no forgiveness for liars and traitors. I have finally come clean...this story ends here. Odin may be gone, but in spirit his contributions shall remain. Thank you for your time Eric, Red Mumba, Axion, Black Dragoon, Rainecloud, FFGnome...I will indeed miss you all. Good-Bye...
|
i also have a small log, where he says he doesn't know why he did it and that we shall not see him again. he shall be missed. |
