A small refinement was made to the registration process. Basically the maximum username length was shortened from 25 to 18 characters. We don't want people with stupidly long usernames registering messing up the forum dimensions, and 18 is a more than adequate limit.

I don't think any have a username longer than 18 characters atm, but if you do, can you please make it smaller soon, or it will be made shorter for you.

After the next upgrade to the forums, the forum rules will be modified and you will be required to agree to the updated rules before you will be able to browse the forums again. This thread serves as the advance warning to this. The upgrade will be announced 24 hours before the update is going to take place.

You could've just changed the database field (user.username) to VARCHAR(18), that would have not only made it impossible for people with longer names to register, but would automatically shorten down any names that were longer.

But then the people with long usernames would not know that their usernames had been changed and so would not be able to log in.
