FF7 Sephiroth  Latest events on FFR explained
02.27.04, 20:10:40

Hey all,

I see there has been a lot of talking behind the sense and accusations thrown left and right. It is my duty to clear it up for the good of the community. What I am going to do is explain the latest goings on and also what there intention is for. Whether you agree with them or not is not something I will speculate on, all I can say is that everything that I have done for the site in the last 3 months has been for the good of getting this community back on its feet.

Firstly I will say how I came to this site. Basically months and months ago, close to a year ago, I was browsing the vBulletin Award's area (http:///www.vbulletin.com/award) when I came across the banner for FFRepublic. Being an active FF fan, I decided to give the site a browse and I was very impressed with what I saw. I registered for maybe 2 weeks before the site went down and it never seemed to come back. I checked again after a couple of weeks and then after a couple more weeks and then I gave up and went back to the fps community where I came from. I suddenly remember FFR many months later so I decided to try and find out what had been happening with it. After looking around, I was directed to FFD just in time for the bidding for FFR. I was going to put in a bid myself, but the money in question was too much for the time. After it was posted that Naoko (Nick) was the new owner, I sent him an email telling him I was a php programmer and I could help on the site. After being able to fix the site so quickly, I was promptly made co-owner and the site was relaunched just before the end of 2003. After maybe a month of uptime, or so, and all the events surrounding Nick, I decided to buy the site off him. A few days later, the server was hit with a hard drive failure which resulted in the site going down, and it having to be restored to a backup that was made 2 weeks before.

After becoming the owner, there were many initial problems with the staffing and many didn't like how I did things amongst the staff, in some cases its still the case. I kept my head down for a little while where I did nothing but develop features and bring FFR up to speed, as well as upgrade the server and other things for the site. After several situations with the staff, things were finally starting to settle down, but the problem remained, that quite simply we have too many staff. A couple of inactive staff left of their own accord after the downtime for personal reasons.

I took the step most recently to make 3 of the admins redundant, as quite simply there was no longer work that I could give them. I did not fire them, I made them redundant, which means that should they of been needed in the future than they could of come back. After reading what had happened, they decided to be completely removed from the staff and accused me of corruption, which can be seen in the other thread. If they had been patient enough to try and sort it out, then they may of seen that they were in fact not fired. After them handing in their resignations from any affiliation with the site and responding the way they did, I really don't think they are the right people to represent this community.

I will now run through every staff member on the site, and the recent people that left and explain what I think of each one and why they have the job they have:

Naraku (Jonny) - Former Administrator

After having shown a lot of dedication to the site and having done many things for it, there was simply nothing for him to do anymore as I restricted access to the templates and source files of the site as a security measure. This will never be changed, but it left Jonny without a clear definition of a job. Currently he has personal problems, and I suggested to him that he leave the site, sort his life out and come back happy. After hearing how he responded to his redundancy and handing in his resignation, I fully believe that he still loves the site, but quite simply has too much on his mind. However, people only visit fan sites to have fun and for no other reason, so after his out burst, I don't see him coming onto the staff again any time soon.

Mederu (Rei) - Former Administrator

Very dedicated to the site, but a very twisted person is what I think of her. We never really got along on the site, as quite simply she never has and never will respect that I own the site. I truly wanted her on the staff to help out, but again, I thought it would be best for her to be relieved of her responsibilities and for her to sort her life out as with Jonny. Again this was met with nothing but insults, and as such she handed resignation. She is in the same boat as Naraku on this. I do not see her coming back to the staff anytime soon, because the community deserves more dedicated people to represent it. A lot of what she wanted for FFR only seemed to benefit her which was a point I came to the conclusion after being on the site.

Aerosol (Jay) - Former Administrator

Not in the art department, not online a lot lately, and in general has been useless for me in the last few weeks. When he decides to come back to the staff, than it will be considered, but it’s his own choice at the end of the day. For me there is no such thing as inactive administrators, as inactive people don't deserve such a rank.

Ethereal (Liam) - Administrator

Showing a lot of dedication to the site, and obviously a very good worker, Liam fully deserves the rank of Administrator, which is not under any dispute at all.

Saizuchi (Anthony) - Graphic Co-ordinator

A very talented and dedicated member of the staff, Saizuchi is more of a behind the senses worker that does technical work for the site rather than straight forward moderation. He currently holds the rank of Graphic Co-ordinator and holds a rank of Super Moderator on the forums also. For all those that think that he isn't active at all and that he doesn't deserve his title, I hope what I have said can make it clear why he has his title and why he still retains it.

Kazuki - Super Moderator

An extremely dedicated and talented staff member, kazuki is another of the more technical staff who does a lot of artwork for FFR. He is responsible for creating a whole load of the artwork that can be seen around the forums, and while he does seem to be inactive, he is again like Saizuchi, in that he is more of a behind the scenes person.

Princess (Megan) - Super Moderator

A lady with the undying need for everyone to be friendly to everyone else, Megan has grown to be a very good friend of mine since I joined FFR. Showing an overwhelming sense of dedication to the community and always trying to let people see the best of themselves, Megan is a great asset to the community. She is also very talented, and I am pleased to announce she is an official Site Administrator. Once the main site is relaunched she will have a lot of influence on the main site, as well being responsible for a great deal of the goings on Final Fantasy Republic. There is absolutely nothing bad I can say about her on any level.

EccentricChocobo (Kirsten) - Super Moderator

A very caring girl who always wants people to have fun, Kirsten is a lady who always does her best for the site. Showing nothing but devotion through all the ups and downs of the latest events on the site, as well as being very good at moderating and helping situations which are bad, Kirsten is an invaluable asset to FFR. She fully deserves the current rank of Super Moderator, and may soon be promoted even higher.

Attrox - Super Moderator

A good moderator, with plenty of useful skills, Attrox is a good staff member. Running his own community at http://www.gdtree.com, a great Zelda community he obviously has all the knowledge with how a community should be run. He is actively getting involved with future events for FFR, as well as plenty of things for the main site. Good guy and fully deserves his job.

As for the rest of the staff and the moderators, I can't really judge them, but they all showed enough dedication to the site. As I don't visit all moderated forums myself, I can't really say much. Haven't really had any complaints about them so all is good on that.

Now I want to clear up all those that suggest that I am corrupt, or that I do things just because I feel like it. I only work to server the FF community. That is not limited to FFR alone. FFD would of died over 3 months ago if I hadn't lent the money to keep it alive. I am constantly developing/restoring the old features of FFR as well trying to bring in some of my own innovations. I did want afterlab to be re-involved with the site, but after first seeming very much up to it, he changed his mind and decided not to do it.

Now as for the future of the site, I really want to make this a true FF site. With no content atm, I am actively trying, along with the staff, to gather as much FF content for the site as possible. Its been long over due and we can't call ourselves an FF fan site until we sort this out.

I expected things to be difficult in the beginning, but I really do things improving all the time. Activity is increasing all the time, and the more things that are done for FFR, the more that can be done around the site. This site used to be something truly special, and I want to make that happen again even more so than before. I want to wipe out the rough history and start a fresh. All decisions made are not taken lightly, and the only thing I want, is for FFR to be the best FF site on the Internet.

I want to have a lot more input from the members on the events on FFR, as it is not right for just a select number of people to talk on behalf of the 1000s that visit the site. There will obviously be things that only the staff can sort out behind the sense's as with everything, but I do welcome comments and opinions from anyone.

Hopefully people will like having me as the leader of the site, and I also hope good things will happen for FFR in the near future. After 9 months of mixed emotions and uncertainty on FFR, I am pleased to say that this is the beginning of making FFR great again.

Enjoy the site, and I welcome all opinions and comments from people. If you have any individual problems with me that you don't want to discuss publicly than PM me.

All the best and enjoy FFR.

A very twisted person? Don't say that **** about her, Mazen. And don't you ****ing dare say she isn't dedicated, because let me educate you a bit; she was the most dedicated person on the staff. She didn't insult you either, she just told you to **** off, and do you know why? It's because you're a sadistic moron, Mazen.

You begged her not to quit only just last week, but this week? It's a complete different story, isn't it? Yes. You make this **** up as you go along, and it's unfair.

Whatever, I'm through with the staff, anyway. You're corrupt and power abusive. That's all I can say. I just wish more people would actually admit that you are, rather than cowering behind their titles.

I think it's funny how Liam is shown to be the dedicated one, when just last week, Liam's adminship was under review.

**** it... You're an ass, Mazen. Rei and Jonny have put their souls into FFR for a long time now and to see them and their reputaions **** on makes me sick. You above all don't deserve to run this site. You've no clue what you're doing and it's evident by your actions. You're power-hungry and a control freak and you've shown the staff and FFR itself nothing but abuse, because of it. I think when FFR finally dies it's slow and painfull death, we'll all know who killed it.

i reserve judgmenet on you, accusation fly everywhere and both you and those against you seem to be flailing and trying to play politics. most of what you said sounds reasonable, yet by your actions i feel your lying a tad. johhny sure is in a hectic state of mind lately but he's a damn good admin..much as i tease him for his mansexual ways()

to me it would appear your letting personal bias get in your way of thinking of who should and shouldn't be in a position of power and that's just not a good idea. however you get things done that need to be done. your new though so i'll give you time to settle in and realize mistakes made and what should and shouldn't be done before i decide if i hate or love you...i offer this advice, think carefully about political desicions you make and use the advice of people around you especially Etheral. everyone has either made their mind already like Naraku or is bidding their time like me. a despised ruler of a board rules nothing at all

I've already expressed most of my opinions in that thread of Liam's.

I don't have anything to say on the political stuff right now. I...just don't want to get involved in that.

I'd like to see the staff do a better job of keeping things clean around here, though. The members need to do their part to get good discussions going, but the mods need to do their part to make sure that we're able to do that. Like I just said on AIM...Balamb Gardens, for example. We need a good, strict moderator in there to keep things running smoothly.

Personally, I suggest you all go reread what he said about both John and Rei. Call me a loser, but it seems he has some sufficient reasons for getting rid of them.

Johnny's reason: Do you guys really expect someone going through personal stuff to be willing to help out the site? Mazen is at least partially right about his reasons for his demotion; Johnny REALLY needs some time off. If this was my forum, I might not have gone as far as to demote him, but everyone is a bit different.

Rei's reason: I know, it's sad, but let's face it. Why should the owner keep a staffer than can't seem to respect something? In the end, though, I'm quite sure Mazen would regret getting rid of her and Rei would regret giving Mazen a reason to.

Not every forum is going to run to everyone's likings. People are just going to have to get used to it.

Once again, call me a loser, but this is my insight.

And I'm also going to go with Nephemera and say forget forum politics for now, let's just get everything in order.

There is a leave of absence thread which a staff member fills in, and is then classed as away. Tell me then, what the point in having a leave of absence thread is, if you're just going to be demoted because it? That really doesn't make much sense to me.

Rei doesn't hand respect out to people when it's not deserved. Mazen didn't respect Rei, so Rei didn't respect Mazen. However! Mazen thought that he should instantly have the respect of EVERY staff member JUST because he brought the site back to life. That reason is invalid, and twisted. How ironic?

he has reasonable reasons put down musicman, he's failed to convince me one way or the other that it's the truth or lies. Johhnay sadly i agree with on a strictly temporary basis, like a month at the most, Rei is outright disagree with she did nothing wrong and there was absolutly no reason to boot her, who cares if she didn't respect him? she did
