Final Fantasy Republic Staff Renaissance
As the year has progressed, the staff structure, site layout and atmosphere of Final Fantasy Republic has undergone dramatic, rapid change. Staff members have found the stress of holding a staff position too tiresome to be worth the occasional joy it brings. Many veteran staffers have resigned and many have even left the site, positive that FFR has taken a turn for the worse and is plummeting fast. Although many have written it off as unwarranted prophesying and a means for a melodramatic exit, many of the staff members have noticed some significant problems. Ones which have rooted themselves inside the staff infrastructure and are slowly cracking staff resolve and organization. And as we tire of this slow defamation of our posterity and authority, we realize that we are slowly turning into a puppet dictatorship. Even the staff members of highest prestige have little to no power in causing beneficial change of any sort. Administrators have slowly began to weigh in on the scale of forum influence, leaving the other staff members to do naught but edit, move and delete. Even our lengthiest discussion, left to a majority vote can be overrun by one admin’s click of a button. Personal motivation and emotional tie-downs have undermined the clout of staff members who are not fortunate enough to have the title of a staff administrator. If the staff continues to go unnoticed and trampled by pseudo-superiority, there may come a time in which the site itself crumbles. A blow as harsh as a mass resignation of staff members could leave the site as crippled as if hacked. So, in order to enact change and restore the order that kept the staff at a point of maximum efficiency, a few objectives must be accomplished, else the members who signed at the end of this post will take the last available option and resign as forum moderators. Here are the points which must be met:
- Communication in the staff must be fluid and organized, so as not to leave parts of the staff in the dark as decisions they are opposed to are made.
- If even one staff member feels that an action must be voted on before put into place, it will be done.
- Regardless of the decision produced by the vote, a majority vote will always take direct priority. This will allow for general staff approval and will keep administrators from flexing their power all too often.
- In case of an exact split in votes, a 50-50 situation, a compromise will be worked out between staff members.
- At least ten staff members are needed for a vote to be complete.
- Promotions in staff positioning (which have been highly biased as of late) should be suggested by staff members, not merely occur at an admin’s whim.
- Gadwinus must be removed or demoted, as his inactivity and hostile manner is impacting the staff negatively.
- OWA must defend his staff position within the week, else he will be demoted as well. His position on the staff is nearly pointless.
- Rei's position on the staff needs to be reconsidered, as ex-staff members are normally not allowed back so quickly. An exception was made, we feel, due to bias and friendships.
In addition to these changes in staff, which we feel will all benefit the site enormously, we put forth these renewed definition of staff positions.
Moderator: Has a wide range of forums, of their own choice, in which to exercise their ability to moderate according to forum guidelines. Subject to promotion if they prove their assistance to be notable.
Super-Moderator; May moderate all forums and has the ability to ban members who do not fall under veteran status. Subject to promotion after weeks or months of experience and proven maturity.
Economic Officer: Posseses the same abilities as a Super-Moderator, with the addition of access to an RP refuel script and the ability to ban veterans. Subject to promotion by staff vote and admin approval.
Administrator: This member holds the ability to make crucial decisions regarding the forums, including the creation of sub-forums, deletion of forums, promotions, etc. This member is also put into this position by the staff and because the staff is sure that they will adhere to staff decisions. They refer directly to the staff in a whole, as though the staff altogether is their boss.
We who have signed do not feel that these points are in anyway overly demanding or would harm the site in anyway. The only reason such a drastic measure has been taken is because of the current disproval of how things are being run and the fact that the staff feels it’s opinions are being ignored. Hopefully, as these reformations are put into place, a better, more cooperative staff can seize control of the site and begin to please the members for which Final Fantasy Republic was made.
Your Caring Staff,
Cory (Phyx), Super-Moderator of Final Fantasy Republic
Tammy (Temiko), Economic Officer of Final Fantasy Republic
Ryan (Maester R.), Moderator of Final Fantasy Republic
Kevin (Siniquity), Economic Officer of Final Fantasy Republic
Josh (Paranoia), Super-Moderator of Final Fantasy Republic
Jon (Nojiko), Former Administrator of Final Fantasy Republic
Kitsune (Kitsune), Former Super-Moderator of Final Fantasy Republic
If you are a current or former member of the staff and you feel that this petition represents your feelings towards the present situation, please feel free to contact me or any of the mentioned names via PM or AIM.
Also, as a disclaimer of sorts, I would like to put this forth: Although this petition may seem harsh and even aggressive, it is for the benefit of the site as a whole. we are not focused on attacking any individuals, only to eliminate hypocrisy and bias from within the staff. Therefore, we would find it extremely disappointing if this thread were to be closed/deleted or otherwise. In the case of that event, we will treat it as though it is a rejection of the petition and will resign accordingly. |

| like i've said before, this place is no republic. Call it Final Fantasy Communism if u wish. Theres too much "wow" stuff here, and no discussion. its just all about the battle system here. I've been with FFrepublic for more than 1 year already, and i've seen the changes. it started out with joy, and ended with "wtf". And the cubicle design aint helpin either. Thats another turn-off. Too many additions and features and lack of communication with staff (i presume) and its hardly enjoyable for most members (including myself) when your not even allowed joke around or your post is deleted or some other crap. This place is turning too tense around the admin side, and it seems that the "admin" side seems to forget about the user and only remember the technological side of FFR. *throws 2 cents* |

hmmm was that a insult? well maybe your right maybe thats why during the Renaissance it will change to be even better but its still a republic well now that i think he is kind of right about something some communication with staff are bad i mean some dont even PM back and these are some Mods dont want to put anyone on the spot so i suggest the maybe the mod can atleast PM a parson back about thing they PM to them and another thing ive been seeing people acting like mod you should give them warning the tell people to stop doing things ect. one more thing is closing a thread that was made about like alot of time this happened in most places*cough The Millennial Fair* the mod there should check it so to simple it down
Mods need major checking in area and mod need to communicate with members better |

I do not really understand this thread besides it is made up of some forum moderators blackmailing the website with their resignations if nothing is done about the points you have made. In addition, it seems as though you are targeting me in general, rather than the other two administrators, and if you are why you do not just state that instead of cloaking it behind words? There is nothing wrong with the staff as it is now, besides members crying because the choices we make are unfair towards them, but are fair for the website as a whole. In addition, you know...I always tell the staff about stuff before I do anything, besides that incident with the announcement, as you know. We all make mistakes sometime...no one is perfect like that. Well anyway, here we go:

I totally agree with this, I know from the past administrators promote people on their own free will whilst leaving nothing to the staff as a whole. We should post threads about who should be promoted to ensure the correct people are gaining the power that they are best suited for, not just, because the administrator said so. This is definitely something that should be put into play right away, and I doubt anyone will say other wise. It would be stupid not to agree with this decision, because it makes so much sense to me. Good work on that one.

|
Gadwinus is a touchy subject really, I feel as though he needs to be removed from staff altogether due to his times away from the forums. He is NOT active enough to be a staff member here, and should be removed immediately. Obviously, I cannot make this decision by myself; otherwise, I would have done it long ago. If enough people had agreed with me in other threads, I have made, this situation would have been dealt with ages ago, but due to the lack of interest, not even half of the staff replied to that thread, which is not my fault.
He does not have a valid reason for being here, he says he does not have to post to be a good staffer, but he does have to post. He has to contribute his feelings towards subjects, apply his interests into decisions, and he has to be helpful to members around the community forums. There is no way we can have a high classed staffer such as himself only closing and editing threads. It is NOT enough.

Rei's position on the staff needs to be reconsidered, as ex-staff members are normally not allowed back so quickly. An exception was made, we feel, due to bias and friendships.

There was an exception made for Rei's position because of several reasons, first, being that she only left the staff because of stress, in other words, it was a kind of leave of absence from the staff, not quitting completely. It's just like what Paranoia did when he left to go on holiday, he had a leave of absence, this is what Rei did, except she left quit temperamentally in order to relieve her of PM's from members ect. Secondly, she had not left for as long as other ex-staffers such as 'aerosol' that was gone for several months, whereas Rei had left for a couple of weeks. There is no comparison...
I am not being bias at all, and I feel that her position of the staff was earned correctly. If you have other opinion, that is fine, obviously, we have to make decisions as a staff rather than individuals, as you have stated several times.
In reality, I think the staff has become too tense, and I have already begun to re-write the Republic rules in order to maintain fun and excitement around the forums without fun threads being closed and edited, I know we have become more and more brutal with posts, and the fun and entertainment has come to a halt. We do not hold enough competitions for example; this will change with the new rules. I will be posting them into the republic headquarters once I gain staff approval and things will start to change that excessively.
You have to understand, I am not an evil tyrant, and I am merely doing my job. I am following the orders and standards that afterlab has set out before me, and I am going to end that with the new rules. Once they have been completed, I am certain things will lighten up around the forums, and it will possibly, go back to how it was months ago, before the rules became too tight for their own good.
Look out for good things to come.
Regards,
Naraku |

As Jonny pointed out, I left because of stress. I did not make pot shots at people when leaving and I didn't do what a lot of ex-staffers (who've NOT been allowed back) did and leave the forums. I was still on the forums, still active and merely needed to take a load off. As for these "friendships", where? I asked afterlab personally if he might put me back on staff, but we're not firm friends =P There can be no bias as no one knew I was going to ask to be put back on staff at that particular time, I just asked. *shrug* We had this thought when I was first back on staff and I said I would be glad to step back down to F-mod position but now I'm not because I work just as hard as anyone else and have been doing so for my entire existance on FFR. Where I am, is actually, where I deserve to be and you just react all guarded and petty because I asked to come back but you didn't get a hand in asking. It's fine with me if you want to get annoyed about it, but at least have some courtesy to me and not threaten to resign just because I'm in a position that you believe I shouldn't be, it's kind of pathetic -.-
As a reaction on the whole, I think it's quite a sad thing that you've taken to it extremes like this rather than sort all this out in the staff forum in a group like this. You've just brought it out in front of the members so that the admins might get embarrassed and bend to your whim.
Not very democratic or rational, is it? |

Master Jawa is kind of right any some ways about this being a Communism. And the admins are the only ones who can do anything, but there are waaay too few to hear what we want.
Afterlab needs to hire about two more, so three can just work on the site and the others can do consider what members want....plus there will be a higher chance of someone being on
Eric oughta just get people he KNOWS are active, like current vets, and make them mods...they'll be more likely to stay here and active for awhile.
And about people resigning...Afterlab really needs more mods of any kind. They leave because it's too much work, so you give them less work--divide it between more--and they'll stay longer. |

We're not here to please ourselves or please our friends, we're here to try and have a good time, run a fun forum and interact with others. We feel this has been belittled and virtually destroyed by a great many changes and things that have happened over a long period of time.
Nothing we have tried to do, or done so far has made even the slightest difference. It's all been reptetitive and pointless up to this point, because all we had were opinions and no listeners. As a result of that, you see people _having_ to go to the extremes of resigning, because to be perfectaly honest, if things don't change to be how the majority of the staff wants them to be, then why should they stay? They have every right to want to leave, they are just giving you notice and listing reasons of why they want to leave.
They have just given you the ultumatum of not leaving if you choose to do something about it. Some staff just left, not thinking it was worth the argument or worth their time, such as myself. I however have signed on supporting this, because it sounds like an improvement for once and would be happy to give any support I can.
I see people are already either taking offense, or only seeing the part of the petition that includes them. Why not back off and see it as a whole and commment on that instead?
Rei leaving for 'stress.' I really wish it wasn't Rei we were talking about, because people are just going to act like I'm targetting her. *sigh*
