Welcome to Final Fantasy Republic's FIRST EVER Final Fantasy Fanfiction Triathlon. What is the Final Fantasy Fanfiction Triathlon, you ask? It is a four-week, three-part event in which you creatively engage your Final Fantasy obsession through healthy, nonviolent means(cough).
Overview:
The Events open up with a Preliminary Round, in which you choose the the Final Fantasy that you will be basing the three events of this competition. Included in this is a brief setting in which you include the Where, When, and Why's, as this is a Fanfiction contest. Event 1 begins with an original character that will be included in your setting. Event 2 is a Short Story about a single happening. Event 3, you'll be prompted to 'RP' your character out of a specific situation that will be later determined. I'll cover the events in detail later.
Judgement:
- There will be a panel of judges from staff who each give their review on a numberscale of 1-10.
- Each event will have its own scoring system.
- After all three of the events have been completed, the one with the most points wins.
Rules:
- All content posted must be entirely of your own creation or of Square-Enix's Final Fantasy series. Bearmind that all Final Fantasy characters, places, plots, and ideas belong to Square-Enix.
- Content MUST be original and created specifically for this event. If you have roleplayed, written, or used ideas in the past of FFR or any of its affiliates and you use it in any of your entries, you will score an automatic zero in that event.
- If any content is lewd, pornographic, or otherwise offensive to any member or group of members, you will be automatically disqualified from the contest.
- Word limits are flexible, but if you write a ridiculous amount of words over the limit provided, you will recieve a zero for that event.
- Send your work within the week that it is due. For example, I will not be accepting any characters or short stories on Week 1.
Tips:
- Choose a Final Fantasy that you are familiar with. You'll be stuck with your choice through the entire contest.
- Follow the rules and adhere to the word limits.
- Remember to fully address each part of the task.
- Be as grammatically sound as possible. Create paragraphs, check your spelling. Proofread. We're not going to be stupid about it, but if it's written in txtspk, it's simply not going to be accepted.
Week 1: Preliminaries
*THIS SECTION IS NOT JUDGED*
Task: Which Final Fantasy are you using for this contest? Give a brief summary of the setting that each event will be placed in. This is where your Character, Short Story, and Roleplaying will be taking place in.
Word Limit: N/A
Judging Criteria: N/A
Due: Sunday, October 5th.
Week 2: Create Your Character
Task: Create a character that will fit the setting that you created the previous week. Fully describe your character's appearance and abilities. You may use images to enhance your description. Seperately, give your character a history.
Word Limit: Your (seperate) history is limited to 200 words.
Judging Criteria:
- How creative the character is.
- How relevant the character is to the particular Final Fantasy and the setting provided in Week 1.

Task: Write a short story from your character's point of view in the third person. This will possibly be a brief, one scene storyline in which your character is engaged.

- How thoughtful, enjoyable, and creative the work is.
- Your character's role. Was a successful niche identified?
- Did your character stay balanced in whatever situation they were in, in the bounds of their on personality?

Week 4: Roleplaying
Task: You will be given a situation in which your character will have to "RP" out of. RP in the Third Person, please.
Word Limit: To be determined.
Judging Criteria:
- How balanced the character stays
- Resourcefulness and manner in which they get out of the situation.
- How creative the methods are.
Due: Sunday, October 26th
Final Words:
- All works will be submitted to my PM box. Thank you.
- If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about any part of the contest, please feel free to PM me, email me, or IM me (MSN is i.r.teh.meru@gmail.com). Please come with a valid question so that it can be addressed as soon as possible. Or simply post it here!

It sounds like a great Idea well done
Ummh for the round one bit what exactly do we have to do, create a setting and one character? And what has a final fantasy got to do with it? |

THAT IS ALL FOR ROUND ONE!!! Please read. Thank you. The setting. You are basing it off of one of the Final Fantasies. What event is it during or after? What time period? Is it before or AFTER the game's story? |

I already wrote up a story (but will follow instructions about submitting it during the specified time frames)
But it ended up to be 1359 words. Is there anyway to ask for an amendment for the word limit on Week 3?
(now reduced to 1264 words -- not even close ^^; ) |

You submitted your setting: Fine. It has no limit.
But you're going to have to reduce the story. Sorry, there. But the ability to express yourself in a efficient manner is key to this event. But I'll have a look Sunday, after everyone has submitted their entries and see about possibly amending it to 1000 words or something. But plan on a shorter story. The story isn't due for about 2 1/2 weeks, yet. If in doubt- give a rewrite. |
