| There's clearly a huge amount of disagreement between members as to what constitutes flaming. One faction seems to believe that even the slightest sarcastic comment constitutes a flame, whereas another faction seems to believe that only a direct insult ("You're an idiot") constitutes a flame. The current policy on flaming, and indeed the traditional policy of FFR, is far closer to the latter, but it has come to our attention that a fair number of members disagree with this. In the interests of pleasing as many people as possible, we'd like to gauge the limits of what people here consider acceptable behaviour. This is your chance to describe what you think crosses the line. Be as specific as possible, giving examples of what you think should and should not be acceptable. We'll take your thoughts into consideration, and revise the policy based on the consensus. |

Aaron, use your brain.
The most active members are the ones who people have been leaving over. "Discussing" the issue is going to achieve nothing, because the people who are guilty are the loudest voices, and are going to pick the option that satisfies and conviences them the most.
How is this "tackling the problem" anyway? |

| as easy as it is to keep tabs on a strict "direct" insult, it's even easier to reword them slightly so that they address no one in particular, even though the intention tends to be obvious. |

But the intention isn't as obvious as one may think. Like I said in the Midgar thread, there is NO way to tell one's intentions, for it is not like an offline conversation. Unless they clarify it, saying that they mean all of those mean and hateful things. Because online, you cannot make facial gestures and emoticans aren't as descriptive as one may seem. You cannot see their body lanuage, the look of forlorn in their eyes, the deciet in their movements- we see none of this.
Flame has no meaning. It's just an excuse and a lazy fill in word we toss to someone when one does not like what they say, no matter what it is. We complain, and the admin defines it as flamming, even though it could be a variety of things that cannot be characterized as such. |

Because this thread asks everyone what they see as flaming, and if they are, as you claim, a small but vocal minority, then there will be far more people opposing them than agreeing with them. We're smart enough to tell the difference, thanks. |

When did I ever say they were a small and vocal minority? They're most of the active members. Not all. Just most. |

| Or in your case, Aaron, not noticing them at all. People will not admit someone else is right. They will ignore the person and move on. |

Does it really matter? If as many members as you claim have left because of this then the number of people dissatisfied with the flaming policy will be greater than the people who like it as it stands. Tell some of them to come back and participate in this thread, I don't care.

It wasn't just me that didn't notice them. We had several discussions about the matter in staff, and we all thought Words was just making **** up about other members being dissatisfied because none of us ever actually saw any other members complaining. |
