Chapter 11 - Overthrown

Zarzon returned to the castle after 4 months between traveling, and battling it out with the wizard Nikoto and his men. He planned to tell the king of his battles and return to his wife and son. Unfortunately, Zarzon returned to a overthrown kingdom. He rushed with his men to a small hut camp outside of the castle and town, it was visible from the entrance, which was guarded by five large guards. Zarzon entered the camp, finding dozens of knights, ones that were loyal to the king. One knight spotted Zarzon and his men returning and the camp went into an uproar of joy, believing Zarzon would reclaim Nimitar. Simon is said to be in the back, and is said to be the one to convince the knights to set up camp here and await your return. Zarzon entered the large hut in the back and saw Simon jump in glee.

Simon - “Zarzon! Thank god you’re here!”

Zarzon - “It’s good to see you Simon, and thank you for keeping the knights together, you will be recognized for your great deeds during this troublesome time. Now…tell me what has happened!”

Simon begins to speak as Zarzon sits down to concentrate on the matter at hand.

Simon - “It started two weeks after you left, a large group of warriors came from the east. They claimed to be followers of Neil. At first they said they were here to make a peace treaty, but instead they merely infiltrated our castle, then took the king hostage. They demanded that all the knights leave the castle and town, or they would kill the king. We left willingly, when I tried to get Sylvia and Cole out, they stopped me. They said that if I tried to get them out, that they were ordered to kill everyone in town. I’m sorry.”

Zarzon - “It’s not your fault, you did your best. There was nothing you could do.”

Simon - “Sir, what do you plan to do?”

Zarzon - “I’m not sure, I need to be alone.”

Simon - “Of course sir.”

Simon grabs his bag and heads towards the door and stops before exiting.

Simon - “Zarzon…if there is anything I can do, just ask.”

Zarzon - “Thank you Simon, you’re a good friend.”

Simon exited and Zarzon spent the next several hours in a deep stare, sitting perfectly still. Several knights peeked in during those hours to see if he had left, they found it very creepy that he had not moved an inch. When Simon finally peeked in, Zarzon spoke as he stood up.

Zarzon - “I need to get myself into that castle Simon. It’s the only way to save them.”

Simon - “Of course, but how? If they see you they could kill them instantly.”

Zarzon - “Indeed, then I shall disguise myself as one of them.”

Zarzon left that night, in the morning he returned dressed in the enemies uniform. Many knights were ready to attack but when Zarzon spoke they stopped immediately. Simon then gathered the knights and Zarzon stood in front of them.

Zarzon - “Fellow Nimitar Knights! Tonight we take back what is rightfully ours! We shall drive out those scoundrels who have taken our king hostage, as well as my wife and son! They shall pay for their treachery! I am planning to infiltrate the castle, and kill their leader. I will then send a signal, that signal will be the body of their leader, flying from the king’s chamber in the highest tower. When you see it, charge into the castle! Kill all those that oppose us! If you come upon my wife and kid, escort them out IMMEDIATELY! If their lives are in danger, then do what they ask, do not question it and come get me. I bid you farewell!”

Zarzon then jumped on his horse, gave it a kick and it dashed towards the castle. As he reached it, he hopped off. The five guards let him pass freely, he merely walked into the castle and towards the king’s chamber in the tower. He reached the chamber and saw the king on his knees, his chest bare and a man over the king with a large sword. Xain rushed towards him screaming “NOOOOO!!!!!” but it was too late.

The man brought down his sword, thrusting it through the back of the king. The king’s body dropped to the floor, his blood stained the carpet, the warrior yanked the sword out of the king’s back and then looked up at Zarzon, who was about 5 meters away.

Zarzon stood their, blankly staring. Zarzon then looked at the man with a smug look on his face. Zazon suddenly burst into a mad dash at the man, the warrior raised his sword to block him but was pushed hard into the wall. Zarzon continuously delivered blows to the man’s gut and face. The man kicked Zarzon and tried to swing his blade at him. Zarzon slammed the man back into the wall, the sword hit Zarzon in the side but Zarzon didn’t even notice. Zarzon and the man continued to struggle, after a few minutes, and a few punches and kicks here and there, Zarzon drew his blade and thrashed it into the man’s stomach and charged him at the wall furious. As they hit the wall, it collapsed and the two fell through the wall. Simon screamed the signal.

Simon - “CHAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!!!!!!!!”

As Simon and the other knights rushed the castle, Zarzon and the warrior fell to the ground from the tower. They landed hard, breaking just about every bone in Zarzon’s body nearly killing him, and killing the warrior. Simon rushed into the dungeon and found Sylvia and Cole in a deep dark dungeon, guarded by three large guards.

Sylvia - “Simon!”

Simon - “Sylvia, take this!”

Simon tossed a bow and bag of arrows over the guards heads. She strapped it on and they prepared for battle, Cole was huddled in a basket in the corner, Sylvia stood in front of it, prepared to die for her son.
