Nanowrimo or National Novel Writing Month is when you spend the whole month of november trying to write 50,000 words of a novel.
a friend told me about this because she was having trouble being motivated to write, so we decided to do this together, although I don't plan on writing a novel, and have no problem motivating myself, but whatever. I plan to keep doing what I'm doing, but keep track to see if I can make it to 50,000 words in a month.
the whole point is to put a deadline to help you get past the bullshit of second guessing yourself, or doing countless reedits, and other shit, which I actually need help with.
I'm going to reward myself with something if I make it, though I havn't decided yet. right now I'm thinking either adult swim in a box, or all the season sets of Its always sunny in Philadelphia.
Anyone else interested? I guess you're supposed to have an outline or something thought out before the month starts, but whatever. I probably won't go more then 5 days before I get bored.
heres the official site, although its a little too uplifting and inspirational for me

Yeah, I never really got behind this concept. If you have to use the excuse of NaNoWriMo in order to write something, then it's probably going to be shit. If you have to put a word count on whatever you're writing, then it's probably going to be shit. If you are forcing yourself to write without second guessing yourself, then it's probably going to be shit. Novels as a genre are probably the worst genre of literature because so much of every novel, even the good ones, is filler. I prefer more concise genres like short fiction and poetry.

I think the point is to just let yourself write without restrictions and worry about revisions later. The word count is a goal, not a restriction.
the point is to let yourself write, so it probably will be shit, but at least you wrote something.

Writing something isn't necessarily a good thing, depending on the writer.

I'd do it, but I'll probably write a great little story and find that it's only a few thousand words long!

November is a good month to stop writing novels. Think about it.
