SpiritWarrior... balamb gardens is a place for discussion and not one sentence made threads, and really, if you disagree with same sex marriages, be prepared to back up your points please.
Think anyone should be allowed to be married if they are in love, marriage may just be a paper, but it alows so much bebifits that even gay couples deserve! Relationships are made by commitment and eventually marriage is the next step. Just becuse someone likes someone else of the same gender, I don't think they should be discriminated by because of that.
The bible... really, everyone that ever opposes gay marriage, they slap the bible for their reasons why it is 'wrong', I really think they should look for the answer within themselves to find if they accept it or not instead of in a book. It is so typical of people that oppose it to give their reason that the bible states that is is wrong, that sodomites will go to hell and whatever else the bible says, but really when you look at it, that isn't their opinion, it's a book's opinion, supposedly the teachings and writings of God and his subjects, is there really any proven facts that say that the bible wasn't just created by some clever author who wrote it and throw time it became what it is now? I just really think people like you SpiritWarrior, need to think with your own brains instead of hiding behind the writings of the bible.
Gay marriage isn't hurting anyone, you think it is because it is of two people of the same sex and "the bible says it's wrong". What is the problem, because how I see it is that people that spend the their time to fighting gay marriages, opposing it, making public cries to ban it, basically using all their time and efforts to make it illegal is only hurting the people that are choosing to make it a big deal! For one, it isn't their business what other people do in their houses on their own time and who falls in love with who. Second, instead of brown nosing into other relationships or familys that have differently lifestyles, they should be concerned about their own family because that should be their first prioity, which makes me wonder is half the people that go far out to oppose gay marriage even spend time with their family because they are so stuck up on banning gay marriage. |

Gay people (or Bisexuals) are just the same as normal people, they have the same rites as straight and should be allowed to marry if they want. People complain all the time about racism but the same people let people discriminate another persons way of life. The bible might say it is wrong but really when you think about it if we followed what the bible said to a 'T' then no one would be able to: drink, smoke, party or have more than one marriage (I mean no one would be allowed to divorce).
I think it is time we stopped discriminating and allow people to live how they want. |

Amen. I think you said it all there, really.
Another thing that people have to realize...is that we're not all christians. I personally find the bible to be the biggest load of horse**** that man has ever created, and so do plenty of other people, so why would we want a law based on something from it? Church and state need to stay separate. |

Basically, it's time to put the Bible away and come up with some reasons based in the current reality for why homosexual marriage should be illegal. I have yet to hear any good reasons why it should be illegal, but plenty why it shouldn't be. At the moment, same-sex couples are denied married-couples' tax breaks, although they might be otherwise living as a married couple. They are usually denied survivorship benefits. They usually (if not always) cannot claim their partner as a spouse for insurance. Adopting children or becoming foster parents is extremely difficult, if not impossible, for same-sex couples -- even though they may be financially, emotionally, and psychologically just as able to raise children as heterosexual couples. (I'm reminded of a case in the news a good while back about a gay couple in Florida that had HIV-positive foster children that were taken away from them.) Basically, making homosexual marriage illegal perpetuates discrimination on multiple levels. Legalizing homosexual marriage may not change everything immediately, but it will put a red flag on all of these policies as exactly what they are -- blatant discrimination.
By the way, I am a Christian. I believe in the Bible. But I also believe in the right of people to live their lives free of discrimination. Like it or not, homosexuals are people too. |
