Final Fantasy Republic is an online forum, which, in short, means it's a place where you can discuss a variety of topics by typing out messages in your browser. You are free to talk about anything (in accordance to the rules, of course), but while you are here, we expect you to use proper English.
In the modern world, internet-abbreviations, chat-language, and a whole lot of other 'dialects' of English have evolved on the internet. It's often used to shorten the time needed to type out a sentence (even though it hardly makes a difference if you know how to type properly), which is one of the first versions of chatspeak. An example:
Quote:
i gtg, cu l8r
This translates to "I got to go, see you later". In this case, it does seem like it saves a lot of time to type it out, even though it's no more than a second at most.
To the point, however, you don't need to save that one second while you're on here. It's somewhat understandable in IM chats, it's more real-time discussion, but on forums, it doesn't really matter how long you take to write your post. So, on here we'd like to encourage you to use proper and full English in your post, paying attention to the proper spelling of words and the proper application of grammar.
If you're from abroad and your knowledge of the English language isn't as good in comparison, it's not a big deal if you make the odd grammar mistake - just try to improve your English by looking at other people's posts.
Next to the points above, also try to refrain from exaggerated posting, like:
- USING ALL CAPS IN POSTS AND THREAD TITLES
- Using excess exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Using more than three periods behind a sentence indication uncertainty or a wait............
- excess smilie usage .
- Etcetera
So, proper spelling (not spelign), grammar (word order, capitalisation of the proper letters), and punctuation (periods at the ends of sentences, with a space following it, and commas during sentences at the right places) are all highly encouraged while you post here. It will make your posts easier to read for most people, increase people's respect towards you, make you look more intelligent, increase your knowledge, and probably a whole lot of other things.
Thanks for making this clear ^___^. I do admit though that I can use a lot of internet abbreviations, but never do I remember using them to the extent of making all my words in one sentence abbreviations.
It is also harder to understand someone who is constantly using abbreviations especially if someone is a newbie with internet communication. I remember when I started internet communication back in 2004 it took me a long time to figure out what lol (laughs out loud) means.
I think another good thing to avoid is;
Quote:
-WhEn PeOpLe AlWaYs HaVe ThE tEnDaNcY tO tYpE lIkE tHiS.
Translated to: "When people always have the tendancy to type like this."
I have seen that happen on other websits and needless to say it can be a major eyesore .
I hope this message has contributed alittle bit to this thread ^^.
Makubex, are you kidding me? That person that you refer to (Angel Tifa) hasn't been on for at least four months (according to the last post date). Stop spamming up in the threads, PLEASE. This should have been locked in the first place.
