Forum Categorization Suggestions

One thing I was planning to do when I was admin was to reorganize the forum structure (I forgot about it, but I think you guys can handle it). Mainly I recognize the need for consolidation and prioritization. If I remember correctly, we simplified and condensed the forum structure a couple years ago, but I think it's time for phase 2. And now that the Final Fantasy scene has progressed, the forums should suggest that the site is up-to-date.
I would recommend a Nova Crystalla Fabulosa Whatevera the Fucka forum, a FFVII Compilation forum, a new/news forum (to deal with all the shitty ports and remakes, and tower defense games), and consolidate the rest into a general FF forum. I really don't think we can expect to have pertinent threads based on those older games anymore that aren't just general theses about how they suck under contemporary scrutiny.
The Fine Arts and Debate forum is shit. Nobody roleplays, nobody posts enough graphics or any other kind of art to warrant their own forums. I would recommend either dissolving it completely or just having one general art forum. Roleplaying can go entirely until people show any interest in doing it again.
The "serious discussion" forum needs a more explicit purpose. Saying it's a "debate" forum is fine, but just having three levels of "seriousness" (Balamb Gardens, Costa Del Sol, Sector 7) is not warranted. Some of the threads in Balamb are not really anything to debate over, so they should be moved to CDS.
Yevon Arena is completely pointless, although Club District is fine.
Zanarkand City doesn't have much of a point, the only active thread is a poll about which browser you use. Axe it.
Finally, Veteran Plaza really serves no purpose. Nobody can think of a way to use that forum, let's be honest. Give veterans access to view the staff forums or some other bonus.
I'm sure more could be reduced, and I haven't really questioned how the site should be refocused, but it would probably help to concentrate on what's new.

A general Square Enix forum might help too- for non FF games discussion like Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest and the upcoming Nier Gestalt/Replicant games etc. Rather than lumping them in with the Gaming section.

i don't think it's too bad. granted, there are probably some obsolete ones that can be merged, but it's good to at least keep an illusion of variety.

I was eyeing this earlier today actually. I'm going to take it all into consideration.

An illusion of variety isn't maintained when you can just look at the last post date and see that nobody gives a fuck about any of these forums.
Yeah, Dave, a general Squenix forum would be good considering that most people interested in FF are interested in other company games as well.

I think there used to be a general Square Enix forum ages ago but it was removed for some reason.
However given the many IPs Square Enix have now, plus are looking into making in the future, it might be a good addition.
Then again, we dont want to get bogged down with loads of sections i suppose.

Totally agree with Abel. This is a case of less is more.

Dave, I think that having a forum for general SE talk/games is worth it just because there are a lot of new things coming out that aren't FF, and having places to discuss topics relevant to today is what's more important.
Maybe we're not going about it the best way in having forums for groups of games. I realize that dividing the forums this way means we'd be neglecting the presence of those Nintendo FF games, FF spinoff games like Crystal Defenders or Chocobo Racing or whatever else, and the handheld ports.
What do you guys think about arranging things based on console? We could give each console that SE is actively developing for its own forum, and put everything else into a general forum. Maybe this isn't the best idea.

I do agree with these suggestions, Abe. Nice one.
Especially the "FFVII compilation" one. We can have several subforums in that one to sort it out.
As with Nova Crystallis Fabula. A subforum for each game, and a general one for general series queries or cross game conversation.

separating by consoles seems to complicate it more. for instance, 360 has some FF games, but i don't think there are enough to warrant its own section, especially when something like FFXIII can be discussed the same way despite being on multiple consoles.

We should have two forums; Final Fantasy and Other Shit. There's no need for so many but in all honesty I don't really care.

Agreed OT. Not enough FFs on 360 to merit it at all.
As I mentioned above, that's my suggestion.

An easy solution would be to not have an XBox360 forum.
Narrowing it down to consoles would actually simplify things if you think about it, and would cover the bases as far as categorizing all extant games goes. That said, I still prefer the original changes I suggested.
Woosey, in a perfect world, there would be one forum and one thread. However, we have to learn to live with the weaknesses of others.

My head was spinning. I would leave and come back and the conversation would have taken a turn. I wouldn't be able to get back into it. I was a 20th century man a 21st century world.

I think it's more than safe to say that we need an FFXIII/Vs. forum right now.

I mean SERIOUSLY, if we can tailor the site to being about FFXIII coverage and discussion, then we will get so many more new members. Why aren't you guys taking this opportunity? You're ignoring the new games and crying when you can't figure out why people don't want to talk about FFVIII anymore.
