The battle system is currently not up yet. Afterlab expects to release the system sometime in the summer. With RP, you purchase items that have special abilities, and you will eventually battle with those items. All levels are being reset soon, to take advantage of a new item shop and also the "World Map".
Your level, as well as your HP and MP go up as you post. EXP is short for experience, and it's just like leveling up in the Final Fantasy games, except you substitute posts for battle experience.
You must gain RP by posting interesting threads, making images, replying thoughtfully, and generally being a participating member in the FFR community. Hope that helped.
