Oh my! I was just thinking about how unpopular I am and I came up with the most crazy idea! Member Popularity. You may be able to add their popularity rating on their card, and on the side of the screen, where things like "Richest Member" are you can have "Most Popular Member." The data for this popularity will be strung out from posts. In short, however many times someone has said the name Foxfire, that would add to one point on my popularity. You know when you search posts by a word, let's say, this wod was "banana." Every post with banana would show, and that word would be highlighted. The info gathered works on this same thing. Although the highlight will be invisible. So, however many times EACH PERSONS username is said, it adds to one point of popularity...

Or something along those lines.  Info would be sent to the database, and FFGnome, afterlab, and Foxfire each get a point...
Some future add-ons may be that in the member directory, you can seach for members by their popularity. Or maybe they would have levels in their postbit. like...0-100 popularity points, in the postbit would equal "Popularity: Loser" or something like that. Just work with it, if I knew how to write hacks I would use it! |

| Amusing idea. xD However, people like myself would get 0 points. Why? Because I'm usually referred to as "Sakura" "Yume" "Tammy" etc. Not "Sakura Yume". This would actually affect a lot of the members who have longer names. For example, Kyoukan Factor is generally referred to as Kyou, I've noticed so it may not work very well. Here's 300RP for the original idea though. |

| I don't like popularity, in fact I despise it. I think this was an original idea on your part, however I can't support any idea that glorifies popularity and puts one member (or a couple) above others. |

I don't really like it either.. its not because I'm not popular or anything, but I agree with Gladarius' statement.. it won't really work that well and some really puts members above the others..
But don't we already have like the "Member with the most posts", doesn't that kinda clarify that members with the most posts are the famous or popular ones? |

I like the idea.But like Sakura Yume said, people generally shorten other peoples names.
Maybe if you could 'rate' the member via the Usercp. That would be a better idea. |

| If you want to be popular just dont worry about it and be natural , if you dont try to hard it naturally comes. trust me on this one. |

popularity is a burden, and if you want it you need to understand that there are responsibilities to keep up with.
It's a waste of time to even think about. For me it's take it or leave it. I'm not going to change who I am for anyone unless it's someone I love and that's sometimes hard as well.. And if I get popular for it, then great, if not, then great as well for I won't have to worry about pleasing others but myself. |

And I also think that popularity isn't really a big issue for forums..
I mean everyone is here to meet new people and discuss stuff..
Everyone here knows everyone.. so there's no need for popularity.. |
