===How To Use Your Private Messaging System===
- Finding the System
Your private messaging system is located in the 'myRepublic' section of your profile. Once there, simply click on the 'Private Messaging' button which appears to the right of your screen.
- Show Messages From...
Using the drop-down menu at the top left of your PM screen, you can choose to show messages from a certain date onwards. If you have this menu set to 'Show Messages From The Beginning', it will show all the messages you have ever received.
- Your Inbox
Your Inbox will show the new private messages that others have sent you. New messages will have a small yellow icon next to them, read messages will have a small blue icon next to them and cancelled messages with have a 'Bin/Trash Can' icon next to them. Simply click on these messages if you wish to view/reply to them. There are two buttons underneath the messages which may also be of use to you. The 'Move' button allows you to move selected messages to other folders that you may have created, and the 'Delete' button permanently erases the messages from the database.
- Sent Items
Every time you compose/reply to a message, you have the option to save a copy in your 'Sent Messages' folder. If you do not want these messages to be saved, simply un-tick the appropriate box when composing your message. You can access this folder either by using the drop-down menu to the right of your page, or by using the folder table to the left of your page.
- Message Tracking
Every time you send a message to someone, a tracking system is activated. This system allows you to see who has, and who has not read the messages that you have sent. This system also tells you whether E-mail confirmation of your sent message has been sent to the recipient. In the 'Unread Messages' table, you have three buttons. The 'Cancel' button cancels the messages that you have sent, just in case you have changed your mind about sending the message, the 'Restore' button simply restores your message, and the 'End Tracking' button does exactly as it says - it stops tracking the message for you, so the message will not show up in this folder. The 'Read Messages' table shows you which of your messages have been read by the recipient. After these messages have been read, you may end the tracking by selecting the message, and hitting the 'End Tracking' button at the bottom of the table.
- Creating Another Folder
You can create your own personal message folder by using the 'Add Folder' command which is located to the left of your PM screen. You may now move specific messages to this folder. You also have the option to delete this folder in the future, in case you ever need to do so.
- PM Quota
Your PM quota is the small green bar that is located to the left of your PM screen. This bar is quite important, as it shows you the remaining space you have for storing your private messages. The PM capacity is reasonably high, but try to make sure the bar doesn't go over 80%. Some users have experienced problems regarding this issue. They say that even though they have cleared out all of their messages, the bar still shows that they have used a certain amount of space. You must make sure that you clear all of your folders out regularly. Use the drop-down menu to access your Inbox, Sent Items and Message Tracking folders, and delete all of the messages in there to free up some space. You should also end the message tracking in your tracking folder to free up even more space. If you have any other folders which you may have created, don't forget to clean those out, too.
If you feel I haven't covered anything in this thread, feel free to send me a Private Message telling me why - and I think you should be able to manage that after reading this comprehensive guide. |
