The FFRepublic Guide for Newbies

Welcome to FFRepublic, a site more than just determined to bring the latest news and info on the beloved Final Fantasy series, but also a community brought together by the love of the series. Our hope is that we can provide a warm and welcoming environment to the backbone of the forum, you guys. Newbies are an essential key to this vast network of diverse members. Without new members, we would be unable to thrive and would slowly die out of monotonous boredom. The flood of new members has been successful in bringing the forums an amazing batch of fresh ideas and loads of unique, cherished discussions. But with the privilege of joining the forums comes responsibility. It is your job to make sure that you are only posting things of reasonable material. Anything that is off-topic, non-productive or just plain inappropriate is greatly frowned upon. And although we do not blame a newbie for being ignorant of the ways of the forum, we would appreciate it if you would take the time to become acquainted with some of our rules and tips for being a valuable members.

Minor Offenses Regarding Posts

under most cases only resulting in an unofficial warning* unless repeated too often

Creating a Thread In the Wrong Forum

This means posting threads like “Who Likes Auron?” in Costa del Sol. Doing this should not be such a common occurrence as it is. It is quite simple to read the description of a forum and post accordingly. Sports talk goes in the Blitzball Stadium, music goes in General Music Discussion, etc.

The only time this should be an issue is if the topics are borderline.

Example: “Kingdom Hearts: Pro or No” could understandably be posted in either Final Fantasy ETC or General Final Fantasy Discussion.

Double Posting

This refers to when somebody creates two posts in a row. There are two simple ways to avoid doing this. If you would like to add information to your previous post, do not create a new one but simply use the edit post button and then type in whatever it is you want to say. The other alternative is to allow time for someone else to post after you, then you may post again. Always allow for a response before posting a second time.

There are a few areas where double posting will be allowed. For instance, when posting in Shinra Mansion, if nobody has responded to your thread in a day or two, you may double post. This is currently the only area where this is allowed.

Spamming

Spamming is any post that it is typically pointless and/or too short for reasonable means. For instance, posting responses like “I agree” or “Final Fantasy ROXORZ dude. I’ll see you all tomorrow” is not tolerated. When in a forum regarding a specific subject, please double-check to make sure that whatever you post pertains to the subject at hand. Way too often do we see people interrupt conversations with a personal agenda, whether it be saying hi to Amanda or commenting on the thread starter’s poorly made avatar. Leave those things to be said in PMs or on instant messenger.

Creating Threads with Disregard to Specified Format

In forums such as Republic Council Square and Shinra Mansion, guidelines for titling threads are given.

Example: All clubs in Republica must be labeled with a [C] at the beginning of the name.

This is not an impossible favor to ask for and the staff greatly appreciates it when they do not have to edit the title of your thread for you.

Vigilantism

This is when a member notices something that breaks the rules or is inappropriate, but instead of reporting the incident to the staff, takes the situation into their own hands. The staff members are almost always busy searching for such things and are the only ones capable of deleting/editing/merging threads and such. Leave the job to them by staying out of such issues. It is not necessary to post “wrong forum” or “I’m going to go get a mod.” Simply click on the REPORT button at the top of the post and not only will we take care of it, but you may be rewarded with RP.

Creating Follow Up Threads

Remember that FFR has been around for a long time and that most threads that you may consider innovative might not be the case. Before creating a new thread, check to make sure that there is not already an existing one. It is not necessary to check for existing threads that are many pages back but at least take the time to look at the first page of the forum.

Example: Do not create a thread titled “What Do You Think About Blitzball” if the thread three spots down is “Blitzball: Is it cool?”

Major Offenses

will result in an automatic official warning*

Flaming

FFR takes pride in our accepting environment and makes sure that each members is treated with proper respect. That is why it is very serious that you make sure that no matter what your feelings be towards a member, you act in a civil manner at all times. It is not necessary to stoop to immature levels and insult a member at any time. As said before, leave personal vendettas for PMs and instant messenger programs.

For those of you who do not know what flaming is: Flaming is any blatant attack against a person’s character.

Example: “Shut up NeoMario27. You’re just an idiotic moron anyways.”

Vulgarity

The use of profane or inappropriate language is not acceptable at the forums. An occasional damn or crap is perfectly fine but flying the “F” word around in posts is strictly forbidden. Cursing does not in any way add to the quality of a post and should be kept at moderate terms at all times.

Bigoted or Racist Comments

If you have a problem with people of a certain race, sexual preference, gender, etc. leave it out of the forums. FFR is a safe zone where all discriminatory speech and conduct should be erased. It seems that it should go without saying that anti-black threads and such are not permitted, yet more than one have been created before. This is a subject on which all of the staff members feel very strongly on and will not be tolerated at all.

Attacks Against Members on Their FFR Card

All too often do members post rude, unnecessary insults on the comment cards of another member. The comment system was put in place for people to receive positive feedback from fellow members. It is not a billboard for others to pin attacks onto. Comments like this will be erased and the member who did so will be warned.

Tips for Becoming A Productive Member

Do not, under any circumstances, ask for RP. It is extremely aggravating and all too common. RP is distributed for many things, such as high quality posts, the creation of unique threads, contests and the completion of quizzes. Not only will you not receive RP for begging like this, but your post will be deleted and any further beggary will result in a warning.

Join a few clubs. Clubs at FFR are a good way to get to know other members and become acquainted with the many activities that the forums have to offer. Also, if you feel that you have a brand new idea for a club that might work, go ahead and make one. Be sure that the club has a purpose and is not just an area to chat, for these types of clubs will be deleted.

Always make sure to read the guidelines for the forums. Many forums have particular rules that pertain only to that sector. They are normally posted at the top of the forum and are a great source of information on how to conduct yourself in the forums. For instance, Sector 7 Playground is the only forum that allows follow-up threads and moderate spamming.

Try to use proper punctuation when posting. Oftentimes a post like the one below shows up:

“hey dudddez!?!?!? Imtotally new here and me just wanna say hEllOOOOOOOO to everybody in DA w*rld^^^”

These posts become extremely annoying and many times, people will not even read them for their lack of good grammar. Believe it or not, but a post seems much more intelligent when simple capitalization and punctuation is used. Please keep this in mind when posting.

When titling a thread, state the topic clearly. If you title a thread properly so that all who view it will know the topic, you will almost always gain more hits. I am less likely to check out a thread called “……….MY THREAD…….” then “The Oppression of Japanese-Americans.” It also makes it easier on the staff when cleaning up the forums we moderate.

If you have any questions concerning the forums, feel free to contact the staff. The members of the staff, including myself are always open to questions and suggestions from members. You may contact them through PMs or instant messengers and they will most likely respond within a day or two.

The Warning System
:
Warnings are FFR’s way of keeping the forum under control and stabilizing the friendly environment. The system is as follows.

1st Warning- Simply a preliminary reminder to conduct yourself in a proper manner. It is nothing more than that and should not be taken to personal offense.

2nd Warning- This warning is due to the disregard for the rules. It will result in a temporary banning from the site for a period of 5 days.

3rd Warning- Hopefully it should never come to this, but a third warning constitutes a permanent ban from FFR.

Remember that there should be no fear of receiving warnings as long as you maintain a positive attitude and obey the rules. We only implement these guidelines to make the site more enjoyable for all of the members, not to flex our power. Thank you for understanding and welcome to Final Fantasy Republic!!!

Its' okay. Your club has been moved to the proper location and I add the club symbol to your title.

But try not to post questions like these in here. Try the first forum in Midgar Library. Thanks.
