Graphical Asylum
The Graphical Asylum is a place where members of Final Fantasy Republic to display their graphical works; as well as have their works critiqued by other members. However, that's a bit boring; so there's more to it.
The Graphical Asylum is a great place for newcomers to get their start; or for experts to stop by and hone their graphic know-how.
If you're looking for the perfect tag; stop by the Graphical Cafe and set up your request. That's not the only thing that you can request, though. Other than various graphics, aside from tags; you can also request any sort of resource that you need. You can request stock, brushes, fonts, or even a tutorial.
The Graphical Asylum welcomes members of all skill levels, and everyone will be treated with respect. So just kick back, relax, and have some fun. Just make sure you read the rules before making a post. (There are only 5 rules and they're not hard to follow.) Graphical Asylum Rules
- all rules credited to Solarized -
There are a grand total of 5 rules here in the GA. They're not hard to follow or understand.
1+ Think before you type. If someone asks you to critique their work, do not say "It sucks. I made better stuff than that when I was 5." That's just an example. Be kind to other people. You can tell them why you don't like their image. What I'm stressing is: Do not be rude.
2+ Be prepared for feedback. Even if you haven't specifically asked for it. Don't start a flame war when someone tells you what they don't like about your work. If you think what they've said is out of line, just let me, or any other mod know.
3+ All works submitted should be original. If you are found to have taken someone's work and then said it was yours, you WILL be given a warning promptly. I will not tolerate plagiarism.
4+ Stay on topics and don't make spammy posts. This is not Sector 7. You will be penalized for blatant spam.
5+ No porn or hentai. While bathing suits are okay, keep them within reason. Nothing we wouldn't want a minor to see.
Getting Feedback
Feedback Threads Go In The Graphical Asylum
For those who want to know what's good, what's bad, and what else can be done with their work. If all you want is a good old fashioned C&C, then just put "C&C:" before your post title. Examples
Unacceptable Critique

They put you in charge of this place?

This is completely rude and it's exactly the kind of thing I don't want to see here. It's more of an attack on the person than their graphics. You're critiquing graphics, not people. Remember that.
Acceptable Critique
Quote:
Ths first one has a nasty look. The text looks like it was slapped on there and the background could use a lot of work. The colors, I think, actually gave me a headache and your border is too out there. Also, lyke ttl uver usuge uf wite.
The second one is no better, probably the worst out of the three. It's too boring, text, again, looks slapped on there and not very well in tune with the signature. The whole left side is blank and the right side is just nasty looking.
The third one is probably the best out of the three; that's not exactly saying something though. I like the area inside her arm and near her torsos, but other than that... it's too plain-- white is overused once more and my god look at that! The text is just bam, right there again. Doesn't even look like you put much effort with your text.
Your borders are not that great either.

This is extremely blunt and walks the line of acceptable. Consider this the lowest acceptable form of critique. I prefer people exercise a bit more tact.

Looks really good. The old school grunge background flows really well with the lighting and the text plus Yuna seems blende dpretty weel. Good job.
#2
Render is fairly overused but it looks good in the tag, Some of the text is abit hard to see but it blends well. Another good tag.
#3
Background is fairly good, render isn't blende denough though and the text looks like you just threw it on after flipping the tag and changing the color but the tag overall is good.

This is perfect. You'll notice that the critique is not excessively kind; yet it still exercises tact. This is want I want to see. Honest, but not nasty. "Here's what I like, Here's why. Here's what I don't like, Here's why. Here's what I think you could change." That's it. It's just that simple.
Bias?
If you're concerned that the feedback/ratings of you're work will be tainted by a biased opinion; you can PM you're work to me. I'll post it up myself so no one knows who it came from. I'm not responsible if you're silly enough to put your user name in you're tag and then request it be anonymous. (In other words, if you don't want people to know it's your work, then change the text where your user name would be, to say something else.) Requests go in the Graphical Cafe. |
