yes that iz true. TSW was a failure because it didnt quit embody the ff spirit, they could have made that movie so grand that it would be remembered for decades, but noo. they had to screw it up.(im gettng off the topic,) but your right weapons help set the tone for a game and when i picture FANTASY i cant help but picture swords and sheilds.
thats true, they tried to expand to far, and look what happen. maybe it was all the hyp. i myself was excited since i heard about it. but was thouroughly dissapointed. i think it would have been better if it didnt have the FF name on it.
Storyline, Chracters, Music, Gameplay, Side-Quests, Backstory, Setting, World, and progression.
Squaresoft just knows how to make all those things, be great in all their FF games. Other games have those things, but FF takes the cake on making all those things perfect for a Final Fantasy...

The Final Fantasy Series, has not only been a great experience for me, but it has changed me in many ways. Made me kinder, more generous, or even a better person in general. That wouldn't work, cos that way, Barret could die and he's quite integral to the game later on. Same for Tifa. Same for Aeris, though the other way around of course. The game wouldn't have worked if Aeris would have lived. It was BECAUSE of her death, that disc 2 and 3 followed.
As for the rumors of reviving Aeris: all false. Raine already pointed it out, but here's some extra elaborating it:
before the game was totally finished, several of the developers wanted it possible to revive Aeris later on, and use her again. <unconfirmed>it is a theory that the old man had to do with this, another is that the mithril cave and the sleeping man would have something to do with it, etc. etc. (I think there are about 7 possibilities mentioned all in all) </unconfirmed>
Later on, it was decided that no, Aeris _could not be revived_ after all. Whatever they had put into the game as link or reference to her reviving, were left in there (why? laziness is my bet, but the reason for which isn't known, AFAIK).
Some very fanatic Aeris-lovers started rumors that she could be revived, and soon enough people had found a 1001 possibilities on how to revive her. Much later on, it was only confirmed that some developers had wanted it possible, yet that it is, in fact, NOT possible after all, not in Any version of the game.
while on the subject, here's some other rumors:
* collect all 12 of the 1/12th (or was it 1/35th?) Soldiers, to get a Soldier character to fight with you as possible teammember (replacement for Aeris);
* same task, but instead you get a Soldier summon that randomly appears in battles and does a ****load of damage;
* Brown Weapon: one of the mountains on the world map is actually a WEAPON! Fly into it with the Highwind to initiate combat, his HP is 2 million;
* Get the Holy materia from the City of Ancients, take it to the Church and put it in the flowerbed, and Aeris will revive;
* Same, but take it to the guy in the tube, midgar slums, who doesn't speak, and Aeris will be revived;
* Onyx WEAPON: he resides below the Midgar Zolom (in the marshes) - to get there, breed chocobo's until you get a White Chocobo. When crossing the slums, press X to dive underwater, and fight Onyx WEAPON. White Choc. can be acquired by crossing a golden and a green chocobo who both have a topspeed of over 170. This rumor had a bit of potential because in the Weapons-break-loose FMV, 6 WEAPONS seem to be breaking loose, but you only encounter 5 in the game. What happened to the 6th one? Nothing, upon close inspection it turns out to be one of the weaons, but from a weird angle, making him less recognizable.
* Zombie: collect all of the body parts of Zombie and he'll become a whole again and fight with you.
The supposed way to get Zombie is to find all his/her pieces that are scattered all over the world, remember in the nibelheim crypt when Cloud picks up an arm and says "eewww!" well that is Zombie's left arm. His torso is on top of the shinra building in midgar, his legs are supposed to be in the nibelheim Mako reactor, his right arm is on the rocket and his head is in the northern crater he is just as good if not a better spell caster as Aeris and his attack rate is higher. He is healed through attack magic and is killed through healing magic. Do not equip any kind of restoring materia on him as it weakens his magic abilities.
* Revive Aeris (yes, yet another one..):
If you get all your party's character members to level 99 before you go to where Aeris is killed, Cloud will battle Sephiroth one-to-one over Aeris' life.
* Karsten the ninja: If you have Yuffie in your party, go to the same forest that you accquired her in. Here Yuffie and Karsten will fight to see who is the Ultimate Ninja, Karsten is supposed to have an attack that steals all your items.
* Super Sweeper fun!
Ok, another strange one. Have at least a few Super Sweepers when you raid Midgar on the end of Disc two. Go to the ShinRa HQ, and look on the billboard which contains the Turtle's Paradise flyer. Press "O" for a while on it until you get a letter with something about a CPU on it. Go to the nearest computer and use a Super Sweeper on it. Now, when you fight Proud Clod and Jamar Armor, throw Super Sweepers on them and they will die, leaving 6 boxes for you. They contain Barret's, Tifa's, Cait Sith's, Yuffie's and Vincent's triple-growth weapons, and Cloud's 5x growth weapon!!
These are most of the rumors concerning FFVII. None of which are true.

I think what makes a game a Final Fantasy game, is a good balance of characters, world, story, plot, music, and fantasy-elements like summons, magic, swords and the like. Square tends to add their special 'touch' to their FF games, which include but are not limited to: Biggs & Wedge, Chocobo's, Moogles, Cid, and the logo of course.
wow, those are really cool rumors. it would be awsome if the ones about the weapons were true. I alwayz wondered about that. by the way, do you know what a super sweeper and 1\35th soldier actually do? can they do anything? ive got 12 soldiears and like 10 sweepers. im soo friggen curious about. back on topic. i think that kura fire has good points about what makes an FF game.
