just found this a few min. ago, but i really doubt it
"This is just a rumorand it is is old news, but i figured that i might aswell go ahead and post a threat about it...im not sure of all the things that releate the two games...but here are some that i know of:
1.The Little Boy in X-2 is named "Shinra" :: The major company in VII is called Shin-Ra
2.In X-2 The boy Shinra Makes note that energy from the fareplan can be used as a supreme energy source, he auctally does call it a "Lifestream", the boy also says he has plans to extract it and use it :: In VII the main source of energy is the "Lifestream"
......ok so i dont know that many off the top of my head...but if you know of any other links or think that this thoery is just bull, go ahead and say so...im not really sure if i think its real or not..."
if u guys want the link here you go:

| Personally, I don' think it is. I think it was just Squarenix giving a bit of a shoutout to Final Fantasy 7. Also to drive fans mad with wild speculations as to whether or not there's a relationship between the two games. |

| im gettin pretty bored of SE always giving FFVII so much appreciation (sequels, movies, prequels, etc,) and they also seem to favor the idea of 'lifestreams' too. friggin try to improve somethng other than VII! |

|
| well... VII was easily SE's most popular game. i mean, EVERYONE who plays games of any type has played it, weather they're RPG fans or not. so of course they want to give it a knock every now and again in their other titles. only someone who has played through VII would realize the connection. |

mhe , just another connection SE makes in their games, Sephiroth holds the record he come from a 5000year old document called the "Tree of life" (aka sephiroth system))
and the system inself is ....how to become a god
very long very big story :d
if looking for Shin-Ra connection , around 200before Chirst Shinra was an Korejan Empire who dit some wars and stuf ^^ |

| In the FFX-2 Ultimania guidebook published by Square, Kazushige Nojima stated that the character Shinra and his proposal are a deliberate nod to the Shinra Company of FFVII and also revealed that he envisioned the events in FFX-2 as a prequel to those of FFVII. |

| yeah you can make the connection that it was meant to show that the games are connected |

Take a look at Spira. Take a look at Gaia.
Even if you ignore the fact that they have different names, how do you think all that land magically appeared from out of the ocean? ^_^
Square just like to link all their games together with the same names and ideas. That's just how Final Fantasy is. I think there's absolutely no canon to the idea that the games are linked in any other way than being in the same video game series. |
