Playstation 3 is in development. Do you think that this is a good idea? Will it be successful? What are your opinions on this system? Lastly, will you buy it?

I'd like to see just how powerful this console is. I mean, after the Playstation 2, can they make a vast improvement? Will it be possible to make the PS3 drastically better than the PS2? If there's only a few improvements, I won't bother buying one, but if the console is absolutely ground-breaking, then I shall purchase one.
Sony's putting a gun to their heads. They're going to make the same mistake as Dreamcast did!
Dreamcast released offset to the other consoles, and it was popular for quite some time, but when the new consoles were announced (that had much better qualities), everyone stopped purchasing Dreamcasts/games for Dreamcast.
I agree with Sansuke. By saying that they r gunna come out with a new system not as many people will care about the ps2. Theyll just wait for the ps3 and save some money or go over a friends house to play the ps2. I wanna see what the Xbox2 is gunna be like
They're doing it to keep competitive with Nintendo and Microsoft. Every gaming company that makes consoles (now basically those three) has a timetable extending at least a decade into the future of what they plan on doing. Usually, that includes timely releases of improved consoles at the right time, usually when consumer interest over the previous console wanes. Sony pushed up the PS3 from its original planned release time because they fear the other two companies will push them out of the market.
And remember that Sony released a year earlier than the other two, and have done, and still do, quite well.
As far as buying it goes, that is variable. I really buy consoles almost dependently on where Square puts their money, excluding the X-Box (Halo and DoA3 did it for me, there). The only thing that has made me desire a GameCube is the exclusive Resident Evil license that Capcom has granted to Nintendo. Unless Sony has amazing games with their PS3, I don't think I'll spend the money on it.
