With a movie on the way and many games under its belt, it has been announced today that a new installment in the Prince of Persia franchise is coming to PC, PS3 and XBOX360 and another one specifically designed for the DS (just like Assassins Creed latest release was)
QJ.NET report:
Ubisoft has now formally announced to the press that a new Prince of Persia title is indeed heading our way. How soon, you ask? If Ubisoft Montreal's dev schedules go according to plan, you can expect it dropping into retail towards the end of this year.
What's more is that the platforms for the new game have also been revealed: PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, plus another one specifically designed for the DS.
Aside from a projected release date and the confirmed platforms for Prince of Persia, the press release only hints at a couple of other things. Namely, that the new game will be "introducing a new chapter in the Prince of Persia universe" and have an "illustrative art style."

More details on the new Prince of Persia game:
Visually the game will be taking on a cell-shaded look with a bit of grit to it. The story will have more of a fantasy element found within than those of its predecessors. The story finds the Prince having to heal the corrupted world from an evil god, who by the way, was inadvertently freed from his eternal prison by the Prince.
The "Sands of Time" from the previous installments are no longer at work here, so the time rewind ability has been taken away. Now the Prince will be able to slide along walls using a glove, allowing for both horizontal and vertical exploration.
When development began, the game was heavily influenced by the open world presented in Assassin's Creed, but play testing found players getting lost very quickly. The game is now going for a much more focused layout, but at the same time won't be quite as linear as the previous Prince games.

Ubisoft have been talking about the new Prince of Persia game in development for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and DS- QJ.net report:
It was mentioned that the DS version is "connected to the game in a very interesting way, but it's not a port." It seems that it's going to be serving a complimentary experience from the gaming franchise.
What's really interesting about the snippet was how Ubisoft treated Prince of Persia: Two Thrones when they released it for the Wii. It was said that:
We ported Two Thrones to the Wii. It was a quick and dirty port, I can say. With that we saw a lot of potential. The controls were not fully optimised, did not take full advantage of the Wii, but a lot of people saw the POP universe could certainly have a home on Wii.
Since then people have been looking into that, but there’s no formal announcement. We are investigating it very seriously. You would never see a port of the game we’re making however. That’ll never, never happen.

The games producer talks new PoP details:
The game’s Producer, Ben Mattes, has confirmed that the Sands of Time is truly over and this game will start a new chapter in the game's history. This is never more evident than the fact you'll be starting off as a wanderer/drifter instead of the noble Prince, with the developers committed to delivering an entirely new experience for gamers.
“We’re starting afresh, in the same universe, and we wanted to bring something new while keeping what worked before,” explains Creative Director Jean-Christophe Guyot, adding, “He’ll be confronted by a lot of fantasy settings.”
On top of this, Matte explained how he feels the game will veer off from being a linear experience in general while giving the user complete control over how the story is completed: “We really wanted to create a POP experience where the player has a much greater authorship over their global experience, so that it wasn’t a completely linear game where they played through it once, and that was it,” he said.
“At the same time, we recognized you will never get the POP experience we want — those long strings of choreographed acrobatics — from a true sandbox. We adopted an open-world structure where the player has the macro-level choice in how it unfolds, how the story unfolds, in terms of which regions to visit and which times, and which bosses they fight and when.”
As most of you know, not much is known about the game yet; however, Mattes also offered readers an opportunity to learn more about how the combat system should play out and made it clear that the combat will not be like Assassin's Creed.
“Every fight in the game should feel like a boss fight,” said Mattes. “The feeling of being against a very difficult adversary who’s every bit the swordsman as you are, and you have to use all your strategy and skill just to get past him; maybe you don’t kill him, just drive him off. That’ll happen often — you’ll drive an enemy away, then they’ll stalk you to return and fight again.”
It sounds like the hype can start at any moment for this title as users can expect an entirely fresh experience from what they're used to. Prince of Persia being offered to us in a sandbox style is something to definitely look forward to.
