Naturally, being a huge Star Wars fan, the first character I chose was Yoda (PS3 users get Darth Vader). My initial impressions of the game are that it is quite solid, and controls a lot better then Soul Calibur III did. Graphics are "Impressive," as Darth Vader would say. The music is easily as good as the past Soul Calibur games, and even the voices are better then in the past. Being someone that was not impressed by the early previews, Soul Calibur IV has turned out to be quite the 3d fighter.
The next iteration of one of the biggest, fan favorite, fighting game is now in stores (or soon will be in your area)! Soulcalibur IV brings all of the 3D fighting that fans know and love it for, but mixes it up in this version with a huge character creator and the inclusion of a couple special characters. Fans of Star Wars will be pleased to know that Darth Vader will be playable in the PS3 version, with Yoda making an appearance on the 360! If the rumors are to be believed there is hushed talk of DLC that will bring the non existent Jedi to your version.
rumour making the rounds is that Yoda and Vadar will become downloadable content:
The rumor for today states that Yoda and Vader might become pieces of downloadable content for the respective Soul Calibur 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) version they aren't in.
Tuesday saw some pictures floating around the internet where Yoda looked to be fighting Vader. This, under the current circumstances, is impossible, seeing as they've been placed on opposing consoles, so Namco Bandai must have their own way of placing the both characters in the game. Writes GamePro:
The evidence was witnessed at a Soul Calibur IV launch party by GamePro's own Sid Shuman, as well as by gaming site Gamer Reports, which posted character select screen images of Darth Vader on the Xbox 360. Namco Bandai, publisher of the Soul Calibur series, had the images removed, telling the site the content was "unauthorized in-development material taken from the game."
Namco Bandai have started releasing content for Soul Calibur IV which has just released in North America this Tuesday. The new content which has just hit the Xbox Live Marketplace includes:
Customization Equipment (100 MS Points)
Downloadable Music Complete Set (1200 MS Points)
Downloadable Music Tracks 1-17 (80 MS Points Each)
We are expecting it to hit the PSN later today as well.
my friend says its great, I should try it out, I like the other soul calibers. btw, blitzballer do you remember me?
i wouldn't be surprised if you don't, I used to have a heartless avatar before I changed it today, and looking through my pms we talked about dynasty warriors a lot.
Namco Bandai certainly has a cash cow on their hands. The company recently announced that Soul Calibur 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) has sold over two million copies in little over a week of sales.
For those who don't know about it, the game actually went worldwide only on August 1. The game came out in the US on July 29, followed by Japan on July 31 and Europe on August 1. It's unsurprising that the game sold so quickly, as the awesomeness of the game coupled with the introduction of Star Wars characters makes for a compelling sale
speaking of which, i've just about wrapped up the achievements for this game. i only wish more of my friends didn't mind getting beaten too much, otherwise i'd have more reason to play.
They held back the characters, now you can pay for the dlc of Yoda and Darth Vadar!
Namco Bandai confirmed today something that pretty much everyone has been expecting since the announcement of a tie-up with Star Wars for Soul Calibur IV. Darth Vader and Yoda, previously exclusive to, respectively, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, will be accessible to all shortly in the form of paid download content.
In Japan, where this news was first announced, Yoda will be on offer to PS3 owners for 600 yen. Darth Vader will run Xbox 360 owners 400 Microsoft Points (about 600 yen). Both downloads will be available on October 23.
A new entry in the long-running Soul Calibur series called Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny is being prepped for a summer release on the PSP.
Unlike Tekken 6, which is essentially a port of the home console versions, Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny will be a PSP original. It will feature a roster of more than 20 characters, including mainstays Voldo, Mitsurugi, Ivy, and Cassandra along with a new character called Dampierre. That's him looking campy up top. No Yoda though. Same with Darth Vader.
One cool feature in particular is a lighting system that lets stages have different times of day. An enhanced character creation system will also be included along with local ad-hoc multiplayer. There's also a single-player campaign that's designed to teach players the intricacies of the game. Think of it as a long, detailed tutorial, if you will.
Namco Bandai announced Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny in Japan with sent out screenshots and character models. Well start with a rough comparison of Ivys model on the PSP and PS3/Xbox 360. On the PSP the bright colors are a little washed out. Otherwise the conversion is impressive.
This batch of screenshots also shows what Dampierre looks like in the game. The newly created character has switchblades on his sleeves and has a hammer throw move. Maybe. Its hard to tell if Voldo caught Dampierre in a throw or vice versa.
