The website below has some great articles concerning the debate between games and society:
GamePolitics.com
Gordon Brown steps into the debate regarding Manhunt 2 not being allowed in the UK, a few killers blame games as a contributory factor and of course the obligatory asian man dies after gaming session binge.

But this is a free country. The irony that it is capitalistic and nintendo and such are unlikely to allow something called a government to stand in their way.

I await the day when gamers take over the country. It will be a sweet, sweet day.

Tetris is classic, though. And it involves more skill than Pokemon. No one could argue with the results if you whooped them at Tetris.

Some news from Gamepolitics regarding another Thompson wannabe called Kym Worthy, a top prosecutor apparently
In her infinite wisdom she has done a list of top ten games for parents to avoid buying for Xmas holiday for their children. This is her third annual list.
As Gamepolitics point out, most of the games are already available in shops, being over a year old- She should have done her homework better:
1. Grand Theft Auto (last released on consoles 2004; PSP, 2006)
2. Manhunt (2004, we assume they mean 2007’s Manhunt 2)
3. Scarface (2006)
4. 50 Cent Bulletproof (2005)
5. 300 (Feb, 2007)
6. The Godfather (PS3 - March, 2007; other versions, 2006)
7. Killer-7 (2005)
8. Resident Evil 4 (Wii, PC 2007; other versions 2005)
9. God of War (2005; we assume they mean 2007’s GoW2)
10. Hitman Blood Money (2006)

The ironic thing is is that their intentions are in the right place- obviously underaged kids shouldnt play games that they arent old enough to play. However instead of blaming the game companies, more should be done to educate parents and also shops selling games to underage kids as well.

Oh this is just quality:
A columnist for Canada’s conservative National Post writes that games are electronic crack - and doesn’t stop there.
Father Raymond J. de Souza (left) who also teaches and serves as chaplain at Queen’s University, opens by copping to a Tetris addiction during his college days:
"I learned the truth about video games the hard way, and so this is the lesson I offer for free: Don’t play video games. Don’t own them. And for the sake of all that is good and holy, don’t buy them for your children…
Since [deleting Tetris] I have never played another video game. It’s too dangerous. Video games take what is most precious — time and thought. And they are making kids fat.
Video games are like a black hole into which time disappears…They are the crack cocaine of the electronic world…
Did I mention that far too many video games celebrate graphic violence, multifarious delinquency and borderline pornography? I don’t have to. Tetris had none of that, and it was deadly enough"

This is his view based on him having played Tetris as a child and no other game.....
