| Are you seriously recommending Shadow Hearts 1 to people? The graphics are dated (though they were ugly even at the time), the story is middling, the battle music is grating, and the voice acting is atrocious. That game is only really good as a prelude to SH2. Its short length makes it bearable, but as a game, it is lacking. Shadow Hearts: From the New World is a much better introduction to the series for RPG fans, and unlike SH1, is still generally available. |

The game was originally intended for PS1, so of course the graphics are dated.
As for the rest, I completely disagree. Once again, it’s a matter of taste. You could stand to lose the condescending attitude and accept that people have different opinions than you. |

It's not that simple. Shadow Hearts 1 is very rough and shows its age and the developer's inexperience far too much to be recommendable as the introduction to a series. You'd scare most players away! It's not a mere difference of opinion. For example, the voice acting is not done professionally - it almost sounds like they got just anyone who spoke English to voice the characters. The female lead sounds like a baby when she gets hit in battle, Roger Bacon is played incredibly over the top, and the voiced townsfolk's dialogue is cringe-inducing. For proof, just check out the cutscene about the swamp monster. As for the story, it's very simplistic and isn't developed very well. How could you even begin to argue differently? The game only lasts about 15 hours! The main romantic plot, the whole motivation for the protagonists' actions, has really no reason to exist, considering the events in the game. Playing SH1 is only useful to cover up SH2's biggest weakness - having too many references to SH1. I don't think I have to go on much longer. SH1 did not get particularly strong reviews when it was released, and the game's quality has only gone down with time. The other games in the series are much better offerings.
In short, your favorite game blows. |

Sorry to burst your bubble, but your opinion isn’t the word of God. I’m not going to bother to argue with you about any of your lengthy rant, because at the end of the day, it’s exactly that, an opinion. I disagree with it. I know a lot of other people who disagree with it as well. Accept that they don’t agree with you and get over it instead of patronizing people with twenty-sentence rants insulting their taste.
And for the record, my favourite game is Final Fantasy VI. |

You have to accept that your taste is in the minority. That's why many would call it bad taste :-). Shadow Hearts 1 is the lowest-rated game of the series on Game Rankings, so that means the whole game reviewing community agrees with me. That's good enough for me; I don't need fanbois to concur.
With the ENTIRE GAME REVIEWING COMMUNITY in agreement that SH1 is weak, it might be considered a horrible idea to recommend to someone that he or she shell out hard-earned money to purchase a game as dated, shoddy, and unimpressive as Shadow Hearts, especially when other games in the series are available and do what it did so much better (because the series has sadly not evolved much). |
