Agreed. Steven Spielberg can suck on my balls.
I was stoked cause it was Peter Jackson, and they were going to get the makeup guys from LOTR (who did the orcs) to do the covenant...supposedly. Oh wells.
I KNOW Steven Spielberg would have Master Chief take his helmet off...and that's not okay with me.

I am more concerned with Steven Spielberg touching a masterful concept and great atmosphere-rich game like Bioshock and ****ing it all to hell.
Peter Jackson that's a different story; all off subject but District 9 has me locked in euphoria at the moment.

Agreed on District 9. I can't wait!
If Steven Spielberg ever went after Bioshock, I think we'd have to organize for an assassination attempt.

New Director Chosen for BioShock Movie
The BioShock movie appears to be back on, with a new director at the helm. Variety reports that Gore Verbinski, previously attached to direct, has bowed out since the new budget called for an overseas shoot that Verbinski would be unable to make. He'll stay on as the movie's producer, but now 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is in talks to direct the game adaptation.
The movie temporarily stalled due to the budget concerns that were resolved by an overseas shoot, but it also removed Verbinski from the project. Fresnadillo's only claim to fame in Hollywood is the zombie horror film, but he's written and directed various Spanish-language films including the thriller Intacto. His placement is contingent on getting the okay from Take-Two.

How in God's name can anyone hate Spielberg?

he's popular, and it's cool to hate popular things.

I don't hate Spielberg, but he's been horribly inconsistent as of late. In his heyday he was pretty much God though.

Outside of Crystal Skull and Terminator, which weren't horrid, just mediocre, everything he's done has been pretty much great.
For the amount of great films Spielberg has made, I'm willing to give him two misses. Everyone forgives Always and 1941, why not Crystal Skull and Terminal?

I found A.I. to be terrifyingly mediocre. That said, I didn't actually mind Crystal Skull much.

At least AI was a different sort of film. I give it credit for that. Also, I sort of lay the blame for AI on Spielberg taking the torch from Kubrick. I don't think it was ever really Spielberg's vision.

Yeah it was definitely different. I felt it would've been a much better film if Kubrick had lived to finish it. I also felt it would've been a much better film if it'd been Spielberg's from the start. The problem is that it felt like two films clawing for the viewer's attention, and they didn't really work well with one another. In fact, they almost contradicted one another.

Silent Hill 2 Set
September 15, 2009 - Silent Hill 2 is reportedly gearing up to go into production as soon as 2010.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Samuel Hadida and Oscar-winning screenwriter Roger Avary have signed on for the sequel to the 2006 film adaptation of the Konami game.
The trade reports that Hadida's "Davis Films aims to shoot the movie next year after Resident Evil 4, which it's now prepping."
The original film's director, Christophe Gans, declined to do a sequel back in 2007. Avary had also initially passed on the sequel, explaining at the time, "I'm not gonna do Silent Hill 2. If Christophe's not gonna do it, I'm not."

Resident Evil: Afterlife is happening:
Sony Pictures and Screen Gems has officially announced the...erm...already announced fifth film, Resident Evil: Afterlife. Set for release in theaters in the fall of 2010, the movie will be filmed in Toronto, Ontario and will be the first in the franchise filmed in 3D. Afterlife will also bring Paul W. S. Anderson back to the director's chair, along with new spouse Milla Jovovich as main heroine Alice. Ali Larter (Claire Redfield), and Spencer Locke (K-Mart) will return from the previous film as well, with Shawn Roberts taking over for Jason O'Mara in the role of Albert Wesker, and Boris Kodjoe in an unnamed role.
However, the biggest casting of all is Wentworth Miller, best-known for his role in the acclaimed Fox drama Prison Break, as legendary RE character and film franchise newcomer Chris Redfield.

Call of Duty Movie Rumored
It's no secret that Activision is trying to leverage its brand name video games into feature films -- it would crazy not to. There have been rumors that the company is actively working to bring Call of Duty to the big screen, but as yet, Activision hasn't said anything about it. Last week, though, a trademark request was filed for the words "Call of Duty" in connection with: “pre-recorded movies featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure, music, theatrical performances and/or animation”.
This is far from confirmation that anyone is working on a CoD movie -- you have to file these kinds of requests to protect your property -- but it wouldn't be surprising if a movie version is in the works, or at least in someone's mind.

WoW movie being written by Saving Private Ryan writer:
MTV’s scooped the writer of the World of Warcraft movie: it’s Robert Rodat, the screenwriter behind Saving Private Ryan and The Patriot.
The info comes from a quote from Sam Raimi, zombie-turned-fantasy super-director:
“We want to be really faithful to the game…to the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents. I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible.
“But we would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a ‘World of WarCraft’ adventure. Only obviously it’s very different ’cause it’s expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture.”
