Uwe Boll wants to do GTA movie:
Controversial movie director Uwe Boll has gone on record to state he feels he is the ideal candidate for helming a movie adaptation of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto franchise.
Speaking to Vulture, Boll commented, “Grand Theft Auto would be super interesting for me, and I think I would actually be the right guy to do it,” explaining, "because my movies are all bloody and violent and I don't have a problem with action scenes.”
Boll added that he feels the movie will likely end up a compromised affair in the hands of another director, stating, "But look, they will go, in the end, with a Michael Bay or a Brett Ratner, and it will be a PG-13 movie made for $150 million.”
“I think it would be better to make a $30 million, very hard, brutal movie without compromising, but I'm not optimistic,” he said.

Boll denied a theatrical release for Postal- he had planned for it to open in 1500 theatres but only four will now due to US distributors dropping the film:
According to a statement issued in the wee hours of this morning by Boll’s people, the movie’s wide release next weekend has been cancelled. Instead of opening in 1500 theaters as planned, the film will now only open in 4 because United States distributors have decided to drop it. Uwe of course is calling this a boycott, saying: “Theatrical distributors are boycotting 'Postal' because of its political content,” and he demands they give him a venue. He says, “We were prepared to open on 1500 screens all across America on May 23rd. Any multiplex in the U.S. should have space for us, but they're afraid.”
Boll though, insists this is just another instance of everyone being out to get him. He continues, “We have even tried to buy a few screens in New York and Los Angeles, and they won't let us even rent the theaters! I urge independent exhibitors to contact us and book 'Postal'! Audiences have been expecting the film and I don't think exhibitors should censor what gets played in U.S. theaters.” We’ll have to take him at his word that they actually tried to buy screens, but since we don’t know the circumstances of his rejection it’s hard to know why they might have turned him down a guaranteed profit. Maybe the theaters in question simply didn’t want to look bad. Or maybe they figured that even though he might be buying the screen, no one would show up to see it and they’d still lose money on concessions. Or maybe he’s right, and everyone is out to get him because he’s so controversial and brilliant. Personally, I’m inclined to believe the problem is simply that everyone is disinterested.

Games into movies doesn't always really work for me. They just seem to be solely a money-making thing. The most painful of which was the bastardization of the Resident Evil series.
On the other hand, I thoguht Silent Hill, Doom and Super Mario worked it pretty good, all for different reasons but I think its important that they know something about the game. It's similar to the comic book thing and it is pretty cool watching it go from console to big screen.
Looking at the list on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_video_games#Currently_in_pr oduction_or_pre-production there seems to be a lot in progress. Some of those seem like they could work, but sometimes when you know how its going to end and stuff, it's a bit tedious having to sit through the whole thing. Meh. |

They do tend to be hit and miss, mostly miss- youre right.
Jake Gyllenhaal has signed on to be the Prince of Persia apparently!
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jake Gyllenhaal (who was first rumored by Latino Review) and Gemma Arterton (upcoming Quantum of Solace) will star in Prince of Persa: The Sands of Time, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game. Mike Newell is directing.
In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.
Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin wrote the script, which is based on the many games created by Jordan Mechner.
Bruckheimer is producing, while Mike Stenson, Chad Oman and Patrick McCormick are exec producing.

Ive heard it all now- Pac man the movie:
Yes. They're doing a Pac-Man film.
"They" being Crystal Sky Pictures, which has just signed a five picture deal worth USD 200 million with Grosvenor Park.
According to Variety, the deal also covers the previously announced Castlevania film, which is being directed by Sylvain White.
There's no word on who's directing the Pac-Man film, or who will star in it, or when it's coming out, or how on earth anyone could think making a Pac-Man film is a good idea in any way at all.
But someone at Crystal Sky must do - they first snapped up the rights from Namco more than five years ago. Funny how they haven't gotten around to making it yet.

I don't think the casting for Prince of Persia is right. Neither of them look remotely Arabic, that being said though, the original Prince of Persia was blonde however I still don't think they're really suitable. Disney taking over means they're going for a family audience which may let it down as far as the kickass violence that could have been in there. God damn.
Hahaha Pacman the movie. That's like when I heard The Rock was going to be playing Johnny Bravo.
Also, apparently Halo movie not happening because Peter Jackson wanted too much money. The amount that it would take for profit to be made is every single fan of Halo going to see the movie twice. |

Capcom are actively involved in adapting some of their games into movies...
Capcom has expressed its desire to adapt more of its videogame franchises to the big screen, revealing that the publisher is currently in talks with a number of leading Hollywood film studios.
“We are in the process of working out contracts for several offers we received at the Cannes Film Festival last week and hope to make an announcement soon,” said Haruhiro Tsujimoto, President of Capcom, during an interview with Bloomberg.
Tsujimoto added: “If realized, the projects will have a big impact on the game and movie industries… We want to do with games what Marvel did with comics.”
Commercially, Capcom’s most successful attempt at conquering the big screen has been its Resident Evil movie trilogy, which launched in 2002 with Resident Evil, and spawned two sequels; Resident Evil: Apocalypse in 2004, and Resident Evil: Extinction in 2007.
The publisher is currently working on a brand new CG film in the survival horror franchise, Resident Evil: Degeneration, which is currently scheduled for release some time in 2008.
