My favorite game of all time and a masterpiece IMO. This game has all the qualities that make an amazing game. It is beautiful in terms of graphic quality and artistic quality. It has good and intense gameplay that will have you hooked. It has an original plot that may be subtle but when you begin to piece it together it becomes one of the best storylines you'll see. Plus the character design is original and cool looking.
The game is very involving too. There are moments when you want to cry and others when you are in the heat of battle.
The enemies are different; as opposed to having countless minor enemies and a few bosses the only opponents are 16 massive bosses, call colossi. These mountainous creatures must be located and killed as part of a quest, so that the main character (Wander ^^) can resurrect a young woman, presumably his lover. As the story unfolds you end up 'in the game' so to speak.
It is also a prequel to ICO, another great game.
So has anyone else played this game? If not then I highly recommend it.
Everybody's a big fan of this game, but I haven't managed to play it yet, and I don't know why. I guess I have games on a higher priority list at the moment, and then once I've got around to buying them more'll be coming out. x( Alot of people are fans of this though, so I'm tempted. I hear it's plot is outstanding though.
You rock me for liking this game! I got it for Christmas one year after borrowing it from a friend. I got to the colossus where you have to get him to stand over a geyser and flip over, but he keeps killing me, and I'm more annoyed than anything. I had to put it down, but I'll start playing again soon.
It's just as beautiful as ICO, and just as engaging to play. There is a completely different gameplay and premise, but it's so well developed that it only improves the creators in my eyes.

The best way to defeat him, from my personal experience, is to guide him around until he's positioned right under one of the geysers, then QUICKLY ride back to him on Agro, and stay under him. This'll give you more time to set up your attacks, and it's guarentee that he won't move away from it, as long as you stay under him. Once he's down, just get up on top of him as fast as you can, and kill him.
...I feel like such a monster for saying that.

Agreed, though I'd personally rate ICO as the better of the two games. It was a far more sublime experience, and it's story was infinately better done. Shadow of the Colossus had an interesting and poignant story too, there's no doubt about that, but I felt it was nowhere near as well integrated into the gameplay as ICO's was.
I'm currently looking for gamers with an interest in the gaming culture and industry outside of Final Fantasy to help with a new, upcoming video game news site. If you think you're interested, please throw a PM my way.
Right, I see what you're saying. ICO was more about escaping/freeing the girl from the castle, but SotC still had a very interesting story and lore to it.
I'm not a big fan of "boss battles" so to speak, so I did enjoy the more fluid experience of ICO overall. But SotC's gameplay WAS boss battles (other than exploring) so that sort of makes it all right.
