I was wondering if you guys could help out. At the beginning of the game Vagrant Story, there is a quote, which reads:
Quote:
|
Quoth Vagrant Story:
The body is but a vessel for the soul. A puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny. And lo, the body is not eternal, for it must feed on the flesh of others, lest it return to the dust whence it came. Therefore must the soul deceive, despise, and murder men.

Now, I know this Durai fellow is a character in Final Fantasy Tactics, but I can't find anything about him. Some people here have played it, so I was wondering if you could tell me a little about him. Who is he, what does he do, etc.

As far as I know, Orlan Durai or Orlandu, was part of Glabados in Tactics. Glabados was a religious sect which ''revered'' Saint-Ajora, or Altima or whatever you will.
There were twelve ''apostles'', Orlandu was one of them, but he betrayed them and Ajora when he found out exactly what Saint-Ajora was.
Or maybe he changed his mind, that's not very clear. But none the less, he wrote the Durai papers, which basically reveals that Saiint-Ajora is no saviour, but some seemingly evil ass fiend. In fact, what you quoted sounds a lot like what the Germonik Scriptures (Which the Durai Papers have something to do with.) in Tactics reveal, in regards to Alma (Sister to Ramza) being the flesh vessel fot Ajora's physical manifestation.
Basically, I'm guessing Glabados wants to run the world or some **** with Saint-Ajora, and fools the entire nation into thinking it's some sort of saviour.
But Orlandu knows better, and decides to fight against the order, weather you allow him into your party or not.
Evidently, when you finish the game, Saint-Ajora is gone, but everyone sees the acts of the ''heroes'' as heresy. Only Orlan Durai is trailed as a heretic though, and burned at the stake. Ramza disappears, and Delita takes the credit.
But look, I'd love to be corrected by someone about Tactic's plot and what Orlan had to do in it, because I'm not 100% sure, and I don't want to give out false info. But that's the gist of it anyway.
As for Orlan himself, well aside from his act in the plot though, his personality isn't very developed.
But he's strong as ****, and you don't need to strategize once he's with you. He rips people to pieces. Dude, he's like He Man, or King Arthur.
As to what he has to with Vagrant Story, I have no clue, I never played that game. And I don't know what A.J. is, either. He's known as Orlan Durai only. Unless I missed something, I'm not so sure.
Well anyways, hope that helps. And again, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm almost sure I messed up somewhere. |

| It's referring to the narrator of FFT, A. J. Durai, historian/writer and descendant of Orlan. |

Really? I don't remember him at ALL.
I remember some dude asking me my name and birthday, but other then that... |

| Yes, he opened the narrative of the story, and at the very end (the first time his name is brought up I think) he closed up the story, signing the page with his name. |

Ah, cool, thanks. I'll pay attention next time. All I remember of the ending is Orlan being killed, and Delita being an ass.
And uh..Elmdor rules. |

Ah, so A.J Durai was nothing more than a narrator for FF Tactics?
Interesting. I know that the writer of FFT also wrote Vagrant Story, in fact, much of FFT's crew worked on Vagrant Story. Are they supposed to be set in the same worlds, or would you say the A.J Durai quote at the beginning is nothing more than an easter egg placed by the writer? |

| Unless Vagrant Story happens in Ivalice, it's not the same world. I guess it's an easter egg, heh. |
|

|
|
| Yeah, it's not so much the same world as it is a nod to the "famous" narrator character. |

We don't actually find out what world Vagrant Story is in. We get the names of some of the cities or towns, and I think 'Valendia' is mentioned (Valendia has something to do with FFXII). |
