Default  How do you look at games?

Hmph. Question I've always wanted to know. How do you look at games, and the characters in them? Do you think of it as reality, do you think of it as if you're involved, do you think of it as the audience?

I personally look at it from the audience side of things, as if you'd have to when doing an exam or something. It makes it so much more interesting to realise what's happening etc, and you can make out what the game makers have done and why, makes it that bit much more interesting.

What about you lot?

I guess I sort of think of it as if I'm involved. It's kind of hard with games like FFX where the characters have voices, which kind of force you to take the audience option. For earlier games, it's easier to picture yourself saying the things as the main character.

I don't do this intentionally; I'm not really a fan of real role playing nor do I like immersing myself in fantasy situations. But it's just mostly how I naturally feel games.

Involved/immersed in the game. For me, it's more enjoyable. I look through the audience perspective once I beat the game to analyze the game and such. But only after I beat the game.

And, if I even want to play it again.

Well, I play it mostly for story, so I'm probably the audience type. Also, I don't think I could make myself a part of the game because my mental consciousness is too strong. I might get some "wow" moments if it's that good, but otherwise, I'd still know it's a game, and wouldn't feel it's a reality, even if it looks very close.

The first time I play a game, I'll immerse myself into every aspect of it, really connect with it. The next time I play, I'll take more of an examiner position and really, really study the story, and the dialogue. The third time I play, everything else moves to the back seat while I really dedicate my full attention to subtle details; such as the clothes of the characters and why they wear them, the meaning of a character's name, the way a character delivers a line, the camera angle, music, stuff like that. I really think a combination of those three is the best way to enjoy the game at the highest possible level.

However, what takes priority for me is the immersion into the game. I like to connect with the story, the characters. Games, specifically RPGs or games with RPG elements, are like... a means of escapism for me. I suppose that's why I write, also. Escapism.

I'm deep, man. *smokes a joint*

Interesting. Do you make your own challenges within the challenge then, as if, I will get so and so amount of X before fighting X.
