SCEE president and CEO David Reeves has revealed that the first PS3s put into production will be those bound for Europe. This decision is rumored to be Sony's attempt at eliminating shortages at launch (they think that by starting to manufacture the units early and pre-stock Europe, they'll have have an easier time meeting demand in Japan and North America). Good news for Europe? Possibily, seeing as they seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to new releases.
On the other hand, Europe (and Japan, which is set to get them a week earlier) will be stuck with a good-sized portion of the 1 million projected first-run PS3s... which means any production issues in the first run get sent to the European market, along with them. Could Sony simply be shafting Europe and using them to shake out the bugs in the first-run before flooding larger markets?
And this begs the question... just because Europe is getting the first consoles, could it possibly affect game releases as well? Or are they still fated to see FFXIII sometime in the year 2042?

Hm, it all depends on the licence stuff happenings. I'm sure nobody will care if it's done via buying the licence to play a game stored on the PS3, rather than a disc. Y'know? I know I won't bother for sure. But, as stated by Sony and on the forum here, they've apparantly got rid of the idea, which is excellant news.
If it's a huge improvement, and the gameplay of the games live up to the hype, and it's all done with discs, this is good news. It's about time Europe got something first. |

I'm indifferent about this. It's good on one side that Europe gets something first, instead of the usual US or Japanese market. But on the other, and as stated in the article, we'll get stuck with the first issue production flaws etc :/.
Oh well, wasn't going to get a PS3 at launch anyways. Maybe in a few years or so. |

I agree with YopY, I wouldn't be buying one on launch anyway so I'm not too bothered about production flaws.
I'm not too optimistic about it meaning earlier PAL releases either. |

| Theres no way I'd buy any console in their first year of release anyway. Especially a Sony one because of the trouble I had when I bought my PS2 straight after its release. |

Plus, the smaller versions they release a few years after are so much sexier .
I mean, the PS3... just isn't sexy. imo. Perhaps with the oversized double-dildo design, but they've scrapped that.
My slim PS2 on the other hand, THAT's sexy. |

It's pretty cool the Europe gets them first. I'm sure Australian releases often coincide with European ones...
I won't be buying a ps3 on launch, in any case. My priority will be to get a Wii. |

Aye. My sister managed to pick up a Playstation II slimeline. I thought they were pretty damn pointless, but thinking about it, they're pretty damn smoothly-run, and smaller, and have an overall better appearance. xD
I think the PS3 will be all gameplay, the look of the machine won't matter too much until it's years old. I guess for the money they're charging, you'd expect years out of it. You just can't win these days can you? |

There are bound to be flaws with the first batch, as there always is with sony....but look at the bright side....
We're FINALLY getting something before the US. That's an incentive in itself... |
