Okay ppls, most ppls have been going on about how "expensive" it is to get the PS2 online, so thats why they dont get FFXI (or is the downfall of it) but ppls playing FFXI on P.C is just as expensive.

(note: all prices are the offical PS2s estimate price)

PS2 = (mostly everyone has that) £170
Keyboard = £20
FFXI = £45
Modem = £50
Hard Disk = £50

Total = £335 (dunno bout $ though)

P.C = £1500 (probably for a decent one, oh most of you have it)
FFXI = £45

Total = £1545

yea as you can see, its better off goin online if, you have a ****e P.C or you you dont have a P.C at all (yea i didnt include monthly fees, cause you have to pay, for which ever console (pc) you go on.

Is that the price on the modem? I know the ethernet card for PS2 is $29.95US, and comes with a mail-in for a free game that uses it... And the HD was upwards of $100US...

Is the ethernet adapter really cheaper than the modem?

Nope,wrong... The network adapter is $29.95, keyboard $9.99 and the HDD for about $80.00. FFXI for about $69.99. Total of $190.00 US. Now heres the kicker,If you buy the game with the HDD. You get a discount up to $50.00. Got that from Square.They are looking for ways to move the HDD as fast as possible.

So if you already have a keyboard(which you do) the total cost will be about 100.00 US. Add the adpter cost and its now $130.00. Looks cheap to me.

Here let me put it in nice big letters for everyone.

DO NOT BUY THE PS2 VERSION OF FFXI. IT HAS WORSE GRAPHICS, COSTS MORE, AND IS FAR INFERIOR TO THE PC VERSION.

I believe Elvaan_Elmdor is assuming you already have a computer powerful enough to play FFXI. So, it is likely he is comparing the price of the PC version of FFXI to the price of the PS2 version_all the accessories you'll need to run it.

Although it is true that the PS2 version will have lower resolution graphics, and probably more choppiness, etc, etc, etc, it really depends on if you want to *wait* for the PC version. If it's going to take another year to get the PC version, is that worth saving $100 or so? Besides, I have heard that some future Square games are going to incorporate some online elements, even though the game itself is mainly offline. There may be perks to having online access for your PS2.
