gear, take, opinion, view, whatever
So, whaddya all think of FFXI being an online-only game like Everquest (Evercrack? ) and the like?
Myself: (I can't believe I typed that as Mysql at first.... *shakes head*)
Hmm, well, I was expecting Square to make one of their FF's online. Online RPG's are 'hot', and provide a lot of cash if sever costs can be minimized. However, I'm not saying I like the fact that it had to be a Final Fantasy. But then, they made FF8 and I wasn't happy at all with that being a Final Fantasy, either. It's a good game, just not a good FF. I'm sure you know that of me by now.
Anyway, I too would prefer the Final Fantasies to be personal experiences, not online worlds. The key to FF was the characters, the story, and the fact you felt absorbed into a story and gameworld. With online rpg's, that's just totally different. You will be absorbed, no doubt, but will it be the same? Never.
It's a shame they had to turn FFXI into their online RPG, but oh well, y'know? Can't have it all. Besides, Square needs the fame of FF to be assured of good sales for FFXI, it's another expensive project of theirs, they can't afford to let it flunk like FF:TSW did. Doing an online RPG _outside_ the FF-saga would most likely not sell as well, at all... so it's understandable, to say the least. Square used to be known for creativity, but after FF7 I really find Square at a total loss of creativity, when compared to a company like Nintendo or Ion Storm or so... |

Oh come on people, don't be shy of a bit more serious talk! |

I believe that this will be the test Square will use in order to find out how stable the online gaming industry is. If they fail, another online game is unlikely but if the game takes off then you will see other game developers follow suit and move their games to the online platform.
Either way, this will be a major risk for Square and their investments. |

Just because its FF doesn't mean that I think it'll be good, nor do I automatically think it's bad because it's a MMORPG.
Anyways, if you dislike the fact that Square isn't going to hand you a plot and characters in a basket, I suggest you ignore this completely and forget that eleven comes after ten when it comes to numbers.
FFX was a complete burst of creativity. In an interview with Sakaguchi himself, he actually took pride in the fact that X was based in a completely original world, with its own customs, power structure, and culture. He admitted that FFVII was heavily influenced by such movies as BladeRunner, and other novelties of the cyberpunk genre. |

what was the point of that killak?
i don't like the fact that it's a number. it should be FF: Online or something. i think it will be quite disappointing though...
they at least better release XII at the same time as XI. |
