So, I was wondering if anyone else has put any thought into this: I intend to have a character personality in ffxi, and not just be myself. I was wondering if anyone else here is going to do that, and if so, what your character is like:
For example, my primary character will be names Yvaki, who is outgoing and trusting, perhaps too much so. She feels that it is her duty to protect all those that she can, and will take time to cast protectives (as a white mage) on any that she believes it will aid. She talks very little about her family, but smiles when she says that she has a sister that she loves very much. She always will have a smile and kind word for anyone.
How about everyone else? |

I myself, will probably reflect my personality through my character.
My character's name is more than likely going to be Ethereal or something similar. She's going to be a summoner, and she'll offer her services to those who she thinks deserves them. However she is not a leader nor a follower, she thinks on her own accord (like myself) and makes her own choices. Generally she'll be friendly to everybody, except her foes. |

I tend to be extremely manipulitive and double faced in MMORPGS.. I won't be down right mean to people, but I'll use them in any means to get to the top.. Then pretty much forget about them when I get where I want to go. I like high end aspects of MMORPGS, and will do just about anything to get there. I'll probaly have maybe one or two close friends.. and a couple of RL buddies that I truely respect and enjoy playing with. If I'm with the top brass of the server, and sit firmly close to the top.. I'll generally be happy and look for more friends, but until I get to that point.. heh.
I'll do anything it takes to get to the high end of the game sucessfully, but I don't do things in a mean or lame way.. The worse things I would ever do are things in the shadows.. subtle but deadly. (Rumors and prevokeing people to select certain corses of actions so I can benifit directly from it, was something I was EXCEPTIONALLY good at in everquest.) This may sound very mean, and cruel.. but people almost NEVER knowtice it.. and it has _always_ worked.
Roleplaying in MMORPGS almost never works, because not everyone roleplays. Plus it gets REALLY tedious and annoying after a while. It's much better to just be yourself.. Roleplaying also restricts what you can do in the game, and how you do many things.
I'm not sure of my class, or name yet.. The name will be something VERY classy and not have anything to do with any real person or character. I'll think of a good name myself.
( Edit :: The word on the FFXI streets is that summoner will NOT be a class. However, you'll be able to summon ONE esper/monster to aid you about once every two hours. This info wasn't on the most firm and secure site, so there is a chance it could be wrong.
There will be something SIMILAR to summoning monsters/espers, called "Guardians". There are 6 types of guardians at first. You can choose one of them to be your guardian and summon it. They also give stat bonuses like in FF8. The guardians will be scattered all over the world, so you'll haveta look for them.) |

| Of corse I'm not like that in RL, but in MMORPGS' you can't play around and expect to suceed. It's a very deadly and cruel world in the high end game. I tend to like to lead things, if I know what I'm doing.. or help people lead things. |

Hmm I liked that aspect of FF8 where you had to go hunt out GF's. Yes I haven't really been following the FFXI scene all that much, last time I looked I had a few people from EoFF trying to get me to join their group.
Yes I was also going to try and think of some exotically excentric name, but I like the word Ethereal so I'll probably use it.
To be frankly honest I can see myself being one of those people who helps out newbies in the MMORPG world, supporting them in battle for a while and then leaving them to go about their own paths.. someone has to do it. |

Ha! I have no patience with newbies, I'll help them if they have a sharp head and I'm in a good mood.. but I will NEVER give them any physical item or coin. I won't waste much time either. Answearing a question from a well spoken newbie is probaly about as far out as I'd go to help them ( maybe save them if I could kill the monster in one or two hits. )
I pity the newbie who begs for anything when I'm in a bad mood though, har har har! |

| Perhaps you may consider roleplaying to be tedious, but I will try anyway. As long as I can find a group of people that are like-minded, I see no reason for me to be discouraged. I understand that you are speaking from experience, but I am hoping that because the player base drawn from the ff series will also be lamenting the neat personalities from the former single player games, and be willing to work together to create something more than just a "game" If this seems stupid to you, I'm sorry... |
