My asset in this battle was the Al Bhed potions. Have Rikku use one or two whenever he uses his poison attack and that more or less solves the problem. I only ever pulled back once, when my party was nearly dead, the rockets Cid fires are of no real use in the battle. Just use Auron/Wakka/Tidus's attacks (Have Kimahri attack once, just so he gains AP  ) and I *think* he can be blinded, so have Wakka use Dark Attack/Dark Buster on him. If Tidus has it, have him cast Hastega, if not a single Haste on every one. This will counter Evrae's self-hasting later on in the battle (and is damn useful BEFORE he casts haste).
