FF XII worship: characters

the way I see it, the problem with FF12's characters is that there are only 6 of them! I can't help wanting more of a good thing.
Ashe- [short for Ashley I guess] she's definitely cute. but from what's been revealed of the story, her personality seems much less playful than the character art. just something I noticed. but anyways, as a whole I like her visual design and apparent personality. she's attractive, sure, but not in a way that anybody could really say is "slutty" or whatever. and she "does things" in the story, which is always good for a female char.
Vaan- [remember the Van from Legend of Legaia? similar hair >_> ] "everyone's least favorite metrosexual." apparently Vaan is the Jar-Jar Binks of FFXII. everybody says he looks too feminine. yeah whatever, ya homophobes. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Alucard. popular as all hell. one of the most respected male characters of all time. MUCH more feminine than Vaan is. I guess if a male character is going to look like a lady, he has to be a VAMPIRE. get over it people. Vaan is cooler than Squall, he's cooler than Zidane, and he sure as HELL is cooler Tidus, from the renowned FFX. I like Vaan. I like that he uses a sword AND shield. and I like that he has a positive attitude in a story that may be very gloomy at times. and his plate-mail leg armor is pretty cool. better to have less armor on the upper body, for better mobility with arms and stuff.
Bosch- he seems to be an honor-bound warrior. Bosch kills things with a sword. and that makes his personality cool. I like his visual design a lot. his face shows the pain he has known, and perhaps the discipline of a military man. and he has intresting armor too. like the other characters, his hair is the realest you'll see on a 128 bit machine.
Panelo- [another oddly shortened female name] she's a magic-user, who dances, and wants peace. that is a good personality. it is also interesting that she supposedly has a crush on Vaan. her outfit is definitely unique. nice boots. and, like the other two female leads in FF12, Panelo has a very nice behind.
Fran- [another nickname!] she is not a human. and I approve of that. I personally dig the whole rabbit ears deal. she's also... I think... black. I do hope her voice actress is black. that would be notably new in a FF game. anyways her personality is pretty straightforward, she's a physical, athletic badass. that works. I love how she looks. her armor is really neat, and her hair is the most spectacular of anybody's probly. very attractive, very unique design for a character overall.
Balthier- [good name] the sky pirate. heh. he looks more like a british prince or something. but once you get past that, he's a cool dude. I honestly haven't really got a handle on his personality, but I have read he's a very likeable individual. the developers of the game were apparently veeeery proud of him as a char. the graphics on this guy's face are wicked-sweet, like all of em. He may be a pretty boy of sorts, but its hard to hold it against him. Many people like him better than all of FF12's chars. |

Yeah, I'm gonna say the sky pirate is the coolest of them. Gotta respectfully disagree with the statment that Vaan is cooler looking than Squall. Zidane, well yeah he's cooler than that, but while Squall's concept was pretty emo and annoying, two things... His Jacket is Pimp and his Gunblade looks ****ing awsome, and nothing is going to change those two realities.
Now, I'm going to hold off full judgement of Vaan until I actually play the game. If there's quality voice acting behind him, that could save him. |

i totally agree. don't really like him, but if he's got attitude and cool dialogue + voice acting, i might like him better. so far i only dig ashe and bosch. they don't seem quite as creative with names in this installment.
just for fun i'll list some of my fav ff names that i can remember: rydia, rosa, celes, locke, and ****ing BUTZ! lol |

Ok, Having played it now... Straight... Since it came out almost... I can say with some certainty...
Vaan: a little twat but he doesn't talk much and he's well counter pointed with Balthier.
Blathier: Greatest Sky pirate EVAR! He owns, and when you give him a gun he wastes stuff, so I use him plenty.
Fran: Sexiest heroine ever. Step aside Tifa, your time is up.
Ashe: For once FF's princesses aren't crying and fainting all over the place! (Cough Dagger Cough) And while I don't believe her costume for a second in terms of backstory or practicality (And for the amazing inability to make the camera look up that tiny skirt) her character I like.
Bosh: Meh, I like the scar, but he's kind of blah.
Penelo: ZOMG 5 characters isn't enough lets put Vaan's Childhood friend in there too! Phew, that'll solve it. No one will notice she's a complette place holder...
Still, 3 out of 6 being best characters to date. That's not bad, and some of the guests you get are really bloody cool looking too... Sort of moreso than the rest of your party actually, which bothers me just a bit. |

I really like how all the characters are normal. Like there is no Quina like characters... there are no really fluffy and bubbly characters like Rikku or Selphie (not that I dislike those two). Penelo you'd think from how they introduce her she would kind of be like a Rikku or Selphie, but she really isn't.
Vaan, so far he's neither a Squall type or Tidus type, he's in the middle. All the characters aren't one dimensional in their personality which is really nice because they're not just 'I'm saaad all the time' or 'I'm SO POSITIVE HOORAY". ruxt, your comment about Vaan being the "jar-Jar" in FFXII is probably the scariest thing I've heard. The more I play, the more I think his costume is like Aladdin style.
Fran is perfect, she just kicks ass. That outfit, the ears, the accent. Those high heels... it'd be best not to piss her off if you were a guy, haha. xD
Blathier is the 007 like sky pirate, I suppose it is the accent. He's cool, I like his outfit the most between all the male characters.
Bosh is okay, not a favorite.
Ashe is at first I thought when you first meet her a snobby *****. But she's alright. I'm sure continuing with the game it'll show more of her sides than her being royality and wanting her kingdom back and being dutiful. |

Balthier is beginning to be my favorite Final Fantasy character. He's really cool.
I disliked Vaan in the beginning, but he's okay now. |

I AM IN LOVE WITH BALTHIER! He will have my babies. Goddamn. He's funny, and hot as ****. Plus, I love the voice. He might take Squall's place in my heart...I need to sleep on it, though.
And I must say, that if I were bi/les/male, I'd totally bang Fran. Not only is she badass, but I'm comfortable enough with my heterosexuality to say she's hot. I need to learn more about the both of them, actually.
I agree with Chaos about Basch. I'm not really a fan...I even find the scar to be irritating at some points. He really is the low point for me. I rarely use him in fights and such. His character/development is acceptable, but I find other characters to be much more interesting. |
