Sadly enough, I think what turned most people off about the movie more than anything else was the 'FF' before 'TSW' part. I'm not entriely sure why that would be, maybe fans of the game thought it would somehow be more 'Fantasy' rather than 'Science Fiction' which to me is sad, because their really the same thing. I mean, what's the difference in saying Magic or Bio-Etheric Energy? Neither of them really exsist, it's just two different ways of going about it.
Personnally, I think people have the most trivial complaints about this movie that I've ever seen. Do you know the people i've talked to who liked it best? People who had barely or never played FF games and who didn't enjoy computer animation for it's own sake but you just enjoy good movies, so, I think the first thing they should scrap for the next FF movie is the FF aspect of it, because when it comes to making movies Square is brilliant, but when it comes to meeting expectations, they've obviously lost something.
And who didn't get the ending? My 14 year old sister got the ending just fine and wasn't the least bit confused as to the plot. She instantly understood the nature of Bio-Etheric energy, and that it was simply a metaphore for a soul. After that, she was pretty much open to the idea that all the technollogy they had was really just magic in disguise and basically her main complaint which was the same one that I had was with the animation and had to do with the fact that thier mouths didn't always synch perfectly with the dialogue, but I've seen live action movies where this is the case. I just thought it was sloppy is all.
Obviously, in TSW, you either got it or you didn't, but I was talking about this movie for months, defending it from attackers and such who would claim that it was just a cheesy piece of shlock. (These same people seemed to LOVE JP3 which came out at the same time.) But I'll say it again, what seemed to get in most people's way when it came to this is from both angles of the argument (The pro and con videogame sides) was the fact that it had FInal Fantasy on it. I think if dreamworks where to release the exact same movie only with the FF removed, it woud have done superbly. |

OH MY GOD!! SO TRUE!!! YOU ARE MY HERO!!! *hugs* well..hehe the twins from The Matrix Reloaded are my heros. but yeah. it's so true and i'm happy to find another person who supports this movie
and it's true, if people had an attention span more than 5.24 seconds long, they would have understood the whole plot and point to the movie. It doesn't take a damn rocket scientist to figure it out.
and as i've said before somewhere else...there is no way in hell they could have made it 'feel' like final fantasy...it's a two hour block of time...how could they incorperate what it takes them 70 + hours to make a game of? |

| Well if another Movie is to be made, They need to contiue their release of Final Fantasy VII, that was the original Idea but was replaced with TSW |

well to quote myself once again...
"i thought it was a good movie as well. i certainly don't think it deserves all the bashing it gets...it wasn't a bad movie at all...people were expecting something way different and are unwilling to accept anything different. i think that's pretty close-minded.
don't get me wrong...if you didn't like the movie because you didn't like it, that' quite alright. but if you didn't like it only because it didn't "feel like Final Fantasy" then get your head out of your ass and smell the fresh air...there is no possible way they could have included everything. what makes final fantasy feel the way it does is because there is such strong character development and the storyline is very long and complex. HOW CAN THEY MAKE A MOVIE WITH AS MANY DETAILS?! they can't! Lord of the Rings is 3 movies for crying out loud! look at everything they have to take out of the books! they can't do everything in a 2 hour block that they'd be able to in a 70 + hour block."
they couldn't possibly make a 2 hour movie out of a 70 hour game...it's impossible, and EVERYONE would be complaining that their favorite scene was left out and such. it should be completely original so people will not have already been exposed to it and compare it to the game (which they have already done to the series). |

Heh, yeah. I remember that once the movie was over, I turned to my friends and said that if that had been a game that ended like that (with only one party member living because I figue Sid was more of a npc) I would have been really pissed.
But as to a FF movie 2, I guess I could give it another chance. I was not too happy with the first movie but as everyone said, it was Squares first attempt at a movie so it could have gone either way. Pitty it went down instead of up but still Square has had good story ideas (otherwise thier games would not have been as popular as they are) and I feel that they do deserve a second chance. |
