New Trek film rated:
Star Trek has its official rating from the MPAA. To no one’s surprise it’s PG-13. It’s significant only in that this is only the third time a Trek movie has been rated lower than PG. The previous two were Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Nemesis. Though really, if Star Trek II or Star Trek III were made today, I don’t see how they get anything other than a hefty PG-13. They’re pretty intense.

first two clips straight from the film, released by paramount- featuring Karl Urban as McCoy- view at link:
Paramount has released the first two ever clips from Star Trek. The second one is Kirk hitting on Uhura in a bar. This is the scene that leads up to the bar fight which you may have spotted in some of the TV spots. The first one though, is the one you must watch if you’re a Trek fan. It’s entirely focused on Leonard “Bones” McCoy and what appears to be his first meeting with James Kirk. Karl Urban plays McCoy, this is our first really detailed look at how he handles the third part of the Kirk/Spock/McCoy holy trinity… and he’s perfect. Beyond perfect. DeForest Kelly would be goddamn proud. This is exactly what DeForest Kelly’s character would have been like as a young man. Cranky and opinionated, and *****ing about space travel. Urban has nailed it.

The film has opened and is doing well:
The opening weekend tally for J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" was substantially higher than initial estimates. The Paramount Pictures release grossed $79.2 million over the three day period in 3,849 locations, almost $3 million higher than initial estimates thanks to strong attendance on Mother's Day. Initially, the well-reviewed adventure was expected to bring in $18.3 million on Sunday, but ended up grossing $21 million. Better than expected family attendance was credited with the upsurge.
"The spike over our initial estimates on Mother's Day demonstrates that the combination of strong reviews and solid word-of-mouth contributed to better than anticipated attendance by families yesterday, confirming our belief that 'Star Trek' has a broad, multi-generational appeal," said Rob Moore, Vice-Chairman of Paramount Pictures.

Sequel buzz:
With talk of a sequel to Star Trek going around, director J.J. Abrams has been discussing the possibility of bringing back some old favorites.
"The fun of this [new alternate Trek reality] is that the destiny of these characters is in their hands — it's not constrained by the pre-existing films or TV series," stated Abrams. "Believe me, whether it's William Shatner or Khan ... it would be ridiculous to not be open to those ideas."
Of course, the circumstances behind either's appearance may be very different from what we've seen before, but Abrams doesn't think that will hinder their characterizations or how they interact with one another. Khan might still hate Kirk, for example.
"[Khan and Kirk] exist — and while their history may not be exactly as people are familiar with, I would argue that a person's character is what it is," said Abrams, explaining that new-Khan could be as bad as old-Khan despite disimilar backstories. "Certain people are destined to cross paths and come together, and Khan is out there ... even if he doesn't have the same issues."

The next two trek films could be made as one:
It looks like Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, writers of the first movie, are already knee-deep into plotting out the next Star Trek movie. io9 cornered them out at the party scene in San Diego last night, and got one, tiny tidbit out of them. The next two Star Trek movies may be all part of the same story.
They say nothing’s been decided yet, but at the last meeting “It was really about, hmmm. You know what, I'll give you a tidbit. [They said to us] 'We thought maybe you could do that as like 2 and 3.’”

Gag reel from Star Trek XI:
For the longest time, gag reels were a phenomenon inseparably tied to geek culture. In the days before the internet or special features, if you weren’t actually on a film or television, crew pretty much the only place you were likely to see one was on a convention-hall screen or at a bootlegger’s table. It was one of those cool little perks that let the fans feel that much closer to the actors and writers and creators they admired, getting a chance to see them doing something we can all relate to: screwing up and goofing around at work.
J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot may have shaken the franchise up quite a bit, but thankfully this hallowed tradition remains untouched, and You Tube has pulled the new Star Trek gag reel out of a wormhole for your viewing pleasure

Star Trek 12 news- Karl Urban talks a little:
Collider hit the red carpet for the 2009 Scream Awards and caught up with a number of stars, one of which is Star Trek’s Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy, Karl Urban. The interview spotlights the status of the second Star Trek film and includes an extra tidbit about Priest, which Urban describes as a “really cool post-apocalyptic sci-fi vampire western.” That’s it? No romance, comedy or drama?
Urban said “It would be great to have another Star Trek out for 2011.” He explained a script is in the works and that co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman expect a draft to be completed by December. As far as details are concerned, Urban is just as anxious to see where the second film will take the crew of the USS Enterprise as we are.

Spock and Uhura romance in star trek reboot film explained, other stuff:
The burgeoning romance between Spock and Uhura in the Star Trek reboot had some fans of the original series squawking, but as the scribes note, there was some basis for it if you look back at the old TV series.
"There was a little flirtation in the original series," says Orci. "But we thought that since we were doing a harmony on some of the things that were happening before, well, what happened in the original series? The first interracial kiss was with Kirk. So we thought what can we do that's different, but that still pays homage to that? Spock!"
As for the sequel, the pair say that they actually have more time to write it than they first expected. That has allowed them to take a step back and not have to rush it.
"We want it to come like the first one, which came organically," says Orci.
"Because we weren't rushed," adds Kurtzman.
"We weren't rushed, so I think the time we got to spend on it is reflected in the work," continues Orci. "We feel the pressure a little bit coming on, but we're easing into it slowly."
Part of the mission statement of the next film will be to make sure that all of the bridge crew get their individual moments to shine.
"In a sequel, you have even more of that burden because the first movie is about introducing characters, but the second movie is about digging deeper into them," Kurtzman says. "So you've got to make sure your story is giving everyone a moment… More than a moment. An arc."
"We've always thought of the bridge crew as a family, so it's not just, 'What are we gonna find for them?'" says Orci. "It's part of the DNA of doing Star Trek right, I think -- to make sure all the characters represent a significant part of the family."

Deleted Nero scene one of the many features on the DVD of the film:
Star Trek was great, but if the movie had any flaws they can all pretty much be traced back to a single source: The movie needed more Nero. Eric Bana’s villain never really got the kind of character development he deserved, or at least not in the version of the movie we saw. It seems a significant portion of the character’s screen time was cut, including a scene in which he kicks the ass of a bunch of Klingons. That’s right, Star Trek was supposed to have Klingons!

I can see why the scene was cut. It doesn't look very good, when the rest of the film is so strong visually. I suspect that the scene is actually longer and that it was cut some more to drum up excitement in the internet community.

It does tie into how Nero tortured Pike though, with the same method. As you say though, watching the same thing again, yet happen to someone else...you can see why it was cut.

Speaking of Khan, the rumours just wont go away:
Abrams recently gave an interview to MTV in which he vaguely discussed the possibility.
"Now that we are in a parallel existence with what fans of the original series love so much, we could introduce any number of characters, settings, references and situations that the original series introduced. Dealing with Khan would certainly be a challenge, but we had an equal challenge in finding our crew of the Enterprise," said Abrams. "While I don't want to approach the second film as a remake of episodes we've seen in the past, and I don't think any of the other writers or producers are interested in just rehasing or throwing characters in for the sake of it... Khan is certainly the most obvious one in the history of the series for me... I do think that there are... nothing is off limits in terms of what we're discussing."

Wesley Crusher was in the new movie apparently- well his voice was anyway:
If you were of a certain age when Star Trek: The Next Generation debuted on network television, then Will Wheaton is your hero. And while everyone worried if Shatner would get a part in JJ Abrams’ new Star Trek maybe you, like me, wondered if there’d ever again be a place on the Enterprise for Wesley Crusher. Guess what? There was.
It seems Wheaton actually was in Star Trek this past summer. Or rather, his voice was. Will revealed one of the movies biggest secrets on his yesterday when he dropped the bomb that he provided voices for almost all of the Romulans in the film. Says Wheaton, “I ended up providing voices for all the Romulans on Nero's ship, including the guy who tells him that "it's time" at the very beginning of the movie.”

Karl Urban comments on what hed like to see occur in XII, or Trek 2 depending on how you look at things:
IGN Movies got a chance to chat with Star Trek actor Karl Urban yesterday about what he'd like to see happen in Star Trek 2.
We asked Urban, who plays Dr. Leonard McCoy in the rebooted film series, if he'd like to see the sequel go further in exploring the relationship between Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and "Bones" since the first film focused more on forging the bond between Kirk and Spock. "The structure wasn't really the traditional triumvirate that you've seen on the television show. It was really more a movie about establishing everybody. I certainly hope that [screenwriters] Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and J.J. [Abrams, the first film's director] continue to strengthen and evolve those characters into those directions."
Urban continued: "I would love to play scenes being essentially Kirk's moral compass or point of conscience. The way McCoy was written he really sort of verbalized the war going on in Kirk's conscience, and I certainly would love to see more arguments of passion versus logic with Spock because they're always fun. So it's going to be really interesting to see what they come up with."

Missing Shatner Kirk scene, in script form:
Even before Star Trek was released early last summer, there were rumors about William Shatner’s supposed involvement. First, he was signed on, then he wasn’t, then J.J. Abrams came out and said he offered the part but Shatner wasn’t interested then Shatner denied such matters. The truth is, we have no clue what really happened, but what we do know now is that a part existed.
TrekMovie.com seems to have gotten their hands on the script for the scene would have had Shatner back in his Kirk pants. One of the problems that J.J. Abrams expressed in bringing Shatner on board was the character’s death, and the scene definitely deals with that in an elegant manner by forgoing an appearance in present time and instead showing a private message Kirk sent to Spock years before.
The scene would have been come at the tail end of the movie and would’ve had Shatner in hologram and voice-over form rather than in tangible form. To be honest, it’s pretty damn good.
ALTERNATE SCENE B
SPOCK PRIME
Then I ask that you do yourself a favor… put away logic, and do what feels right. The world you’ve inherited lives in the shadow of incalculable devastation… but there’s no reason you must face it alone.
And from around his neck, he removes the PENDANT that until now, we’ve only caught glimpses of. Places it on the table beside his younger self. The feeling in his eyes is profound…
SPOCK PRIME (CONT’D)
This was a gift to me. Representing… a dream. One we were unable to fulfill. (softly) The way you can now.
And moves to the door. Stops. Offers the VULCAN SALUTE:
SPOCK PRIME (CONT’D)
As my customary farewell would appear oddly self serving, I will simply say… good luck.
Their eyes hold. Spock turns, disappearing into the corridor. Young Spock stares at the empty doorway a beat, his mind a jumble of thoughts. Looks to the pendant… and realizes it’s a HOLO-EMITTER. After considering a beat, he hits an activation button and a MOVING HOLOGRAPHIC MESSAGE materializes before him:
CAPTAIN JAMES T. KIRK. WILLIAM SHATNER. As always, brash, wry, confident — and SINGING:
KIRK/ SHATNER
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you…
(stops, grins)
I know I know, it’s illogical to celebrate something you had nothing to do with, but I haven’t had the chance to congratulate you on your appointment to the ambassadorship so I thought I’d seize the occasion… Bravo, Spock — they tell me your first mission may take you away for awhile, so I’ll be the first to wish you luck… and to say… (beat, emotional) I miss you, old friend.
… and we’re PUSHING IN on Young Spock, taking in the image of Kirk’s future self, the message, but above all — the clear, unquestionable friendship these two men had…
INT. CORRIDOR – CONTINUOUS
As Spock Prime walks off down the corridor, he passes right by a man conferring with a nurse — the man pauses, turns… it’s SAREK. Suddenly overcome by a feeling that the stranger who’s just passed him is… oddly familiar.
KIRK/SHATNER (V.O.)
I suppose I’d always imagined us… outgrowing Starfleet together. Watching life swing us into our Emeritus years…
INT. STARBASE ONE – HANGAR – ETERNAL NIGHT
MUSIC BUILDING — glass walls reveal THE ENTERPRISE at dock, UTILITY CRAFTS floating around it, repairing. Standing at attention in rows, THE ENTERPRISE CREW — over four hundred of them wearing DRESS UNIFORMS — TRACK DOWN the faces, all proud:
KIRK/SHATNER (V.O.)
I look around at the new cadets now and can’t help thinking… has it really been so long? Wasn’t it only yesterday we stepped onto the Enterprise as boys? That I had to prove to the crew I deserved command… and their respect?
