ATTENTION; SPOILERS.
I'm of the mind that video game based movies suck, but Silent Hill did take a step in the right direction.
As far as I'm concerned it sure as hell isn't the movie of the century, but it was pleasing none the less.
The plot wasn't exactly the same, (As the first game.) but the same elements were kept in, so if you're familiar with the story for the first SH (Minus the whole drug thing.) you might recognize a few things.
Yea I say that, but I'm not sure I completely grasped the synopsis of the first game.
But anyways, the plot isn't as bad as I thought they might make it, it was a good job, considering how vast and confusing the game plot actually is...
Although the ending of the movie, I sure as **** got bamboozled...
There are a few things that did bug me though...like Pyramid Head from the second game...he's important in SH2, representing James's punishment, but in the movie I guess he's just there for show.
And the thing about Lisa, who has a great role in the game...seemed out of place and just about meaningless in the movie.
But aside...what little gore there was, was great, and they completely succeeded in recreating the town of Silent Hill, which seems to be a mix from the settings of both first games.
Complete with fog, of course. No complaint there.
As for the acting, well the acting in Silent Hill, as far as I'm concerned was never all that fantastic, so I can’t really compare..
Ah and screw me, what did you guys think of it? Do you think it blows, was great, what? |

| I loved the film. So much so that I went to see it four times in one day and one more the next. It was a work of art. |

| I enjoyed it. The ending sort of left me feeling bad but it was very exciting to see what happens next when the sirens go off. |

I thought it was a fantastic film, however, I saw the ending in a different way. Everyone's told me she's dead, but I'm sure she's just still trapped in Silent Hill, of course, not the normal Silent Hill that her husband tried to find her in, but the parrallel Silent Hill.
I believe that it was pretty jumpy too, but never the less it was a great movie to watch. Tension-building all the way through, and I look forward to the next edition of this hoped to be series.
The only thing that disturbed me was the police officers face melting as she was lowered onto the burning flames of the kid. Knocked me sick not watching it, but imagining it in reality afterwards. Eck. |

I'm with you on that one. I'm sure she's trapped as well. But what I wonder is..WHY would she be trapped? What excatly did she have to do with SH other then her daughter being trapped there? I'm not sure I get it..
And it even looks like there might be a sequel...I'm sure the father will venture back there to find his wife and daughter.
Everything seems to have been solved, so why would the town keep them there? Mysteries, mysteries... |

That was a hard moment for me too. Too much to take. And there were actually some people in the theatre laughing their heads off. Tis the reason why people buy bootlegs nowadays.
I found the third appearance of Pyramid Head equally disturbing, if not more. Just the whole visual of him...grabbing Anna by the neck (hair? dont remember). It made for some powerful emotional stir. The way he disposed of her was messed up, too. |

It absolutely KILLED me to see how bad the acting was coupled with grotesque inconsistancies. I wanted to like it so much, and I went in thinking "alright, this is going to suck ass because it's a game to movie deal," but HOT DAMN! Does the acting get any more crappy?!
Not only was the acting severely lacking, but some of the lines were needlessly placed in the script, and trying to make a cliche, over-done, moral point. Like when the auto guy is talking to the husband about Silent Hill and says "heh. The fumes'll kill ya'," just as he's lighting a cigarette...way to make a statement, guys...Bra-****ing-vo *claps twice*
One of the major inconsistancies I am refering to is when the main chick lady runs back to her car and tries to make a call out of her cell phone...it rings, because she HAS RECEPTION...her husband even picks up his phone and hears broken words and static. Then the dyke-cop-lady takes off her helmet with the most obvious "I want to bone you" look on her face and tries to make a call out on her radio, but for some reason, it's dead. Something isn't right...because one blond has reception and the other doesn't...I think one of them dyed her hair. Maybe the events were switched, which means it makes even less sense.
NOTE: I didn't hate the whole movie...I just hate the terrible acting and inconsistant details that ruined it for me.
I think the most credible line in the entire movie is as follows: "What the ****? What the ****!? You saw that right? That was real? What the **** is going on!?" That is EXACTLY what I would be saying/thinking.
I have to say Pyramid Head was rocking my balls, the nurses moved kinda creepy-like and the guy in the can was pretty damn badass, and I liked the fact that they used the music from the games...other than that, I have a section of my ass with Radha Mitchell's name on it. |
