This board doesn't have a Led Zeppelin thread. That's just wrong, so I've taken matters into my own hands.
I've gotten into Zep again in the past two weeks or so. This band are so ****ing amazing. I used to own every studio album they made except Coda, but some wanker stole my original copies of Presence and Zoso, but at least I have a backup burn of Zoso. No such luck with Presence. I've at least got "Achilles Last Stand," that album's best track and possibly the best song Zeppelin ever recorded, on another disc, but it still pisses me off.
Quite simply, Zeppelin almost single-handedly invented metal. It doesn't really qualify as bona-fide heavy metal these days, but Zeppelin were easily the first artist to take British blues and make it into genuinely heavy music. Every album they released between 1969 and their breakup shortly after drummer John Bonham's death is a bona-fide classic, containing songs that redefined the way people look at rock music. In Robert Plant they have one of the most charismatic and skilled vocalists of all time; Jimmy Page is a guitar God; John Bonham is a model hard rock drummer; John Paul Jones is an incredible bass player and comes up with some of the greatest musical ideas I've ever heard. Page and Plant are also fantastic songwriters, even if some of the lyrics are a bit on the derivative side. Go beyond "Stairway" for a second. Everyone knows that song. Check out **** like "Tangerine" from the third album, or "Whole Lotta Love" (one of the great rock riffs of all time). "Friends" from the third album is ****ing creepy, and the way it leads into the ecstatic "Celebration Day" is bloody well amazing. "Dancing Days" is a fine song. "Ten Years Gone" is even better, emotionally charged heavy music. "Achilles Last Stand" as I mentioned before is amazing, pretty much the culmination of everything Zeppelin were trying on their first six albums. I can't listen to that song without having a chill run down my spine; it's so bloody amazing.
What really amazes me about this band is that they were able to keep recording great music while at least Bonham and Page were hopeless heroin addicts; I'm reading Hammer of the Gods, their biography, right now, and it's amazing how much this band went through. Truly some Godly music.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the group. |

You, my man, have good taste. Led Zepplin is probably one of the greatest classic rock singers of all time. (I actually have LZ music going through my head right now... lol)
Every time I listen to a new rock station, or a classic rock station, and some Led comes on, I'm jamming to it. He's just... awesome. |

1. Aaron, the symbol Jimmy picked out for IV, doesn't say anything and is too often misinterpreted for the words Zoso. In reality, it is one symbol turned upside down and put together with another one.
2. Musicman, Led Zeppelin is a band and not a person. Four people, Vocals, Harmonica: Robert Plan;, Acoustic and Electric guitars: Jimmy Page; Bass, Mandolin, Keyboards, Piano, Organ, Harpishcord and almost anything with keys: John Paul Jones; Drums and Precussion: John Bonham.
3. Led Zeppelin is the greatest band of all time. Without them (and Jeff Beck's "Truth" album) heavy metal would be nonexistant. Or suck. One or the other. |

yeah, I just call the album Zoso 'cause it doesn't really have a title, and it's more interesting than a roman numeral.
I agree with everything else you said though. Except Bonham was the drummer, not Jones. |

Bah, I knew that, but just that Led Zepplin seems like a name of a person.
Tells you how stupid I can be sometimes. |

dumb ass^^
anyways.. the reason there wasn't a led zeppelin thread.. is cause we all know they rock.. they're great.. and we've praised them enough times..
but if we start a new thread for every great band present and past.. this place would be flooded with thread..
Led zeppelin WAS great... and Jimmy Page WAS a great guitarist... enough said... you can basically figure out the rest.. |

I used to not like them (*hears a bunch of gasps*), but after awhile, they grew on me. Hearing Kashmire about 20 times does that.
Now I'll say that most of the stuff on Physical Graffiti is great stuff. "Stairway To Heaven" and "All Of My Love" are nice ballads, also. |
