In order to rid the world of a pollution that has tainted the city he rules and the people he loves, Doctor Higashi creates a new breed of robotic cleansing machines, prototype BK-1. For some unknown reason, BK-1 malfunctions and comes under the control of a mysterious nemesis of the Higashi bloodline. Reigning under the new title of the Black kings, the robot army makes a move on the city and is only met by the response of Higashi's newest scientific experiment: Casshern. Casshern is a mutationsh and steel, with the advantages of both classes. But the catch is, the responsibility of Casshern lies in the hands of Higashi's own son, Tetsuya.
