| i know, that myself personally, i was quite pleased w/ the outcome. i have been praying that LOTR would win a bunch, but 11 was actually quite surprising. i thought that it'd win about seven maybe, but eleven was kewl. i think sean penn deserved the oscar for mystic river. i saw the movie and while the movie was crap, his acting was good. and i liked billy crystal's little singing thing and the openeing movie. but thats just me. what do you all think? |

I hate award shows... Enough said...
I was ****ing pissed LOTR won so many for crap...
I loved LOTR: FotR and LOTR: TTT but I hated RotK... I thought it was the ****tiest movie i've watched in a long time... The cuts between some of the scenes were plain hideous, showing no continuinity, and some of the scenes were so bloody useless that by the time I realised I had fallen asleep, somebody had mugged all me clothes while I was wearing them... No seriously, I just hated the damn movie to hell...
ANY fan boys got problems? Shut up... xD
I personally felt The Last Samurai was so damn better at telling a compelling story, even if the storyline was rather cliche with white guy being the only man who can save the poor Samurai... It was an amazing movie still... |

As much as I loved LOTR Return of the King: it did in all honesty win too many awards...it tied Ben Hur and Titanic. The Last Samurai, Monster, School of Rock and 21 Grams were all up for hardly any awards and they were really good movies. I was pleased to see Sean Penn win for his world class performance in Mystic River and Tim Robbins won best supporting Actor. And at least Sophia Copolla took best original screenplay for Lost in Translation; though that award isn't too prestigious.
It wasn't a bad night just nothing too exciting -- well except that Jack Black and Will Ferrell song was aight I guess. |

im glad lorts got so many awards.
theyre all good movies, and they were filmed at the same time, and the last two have gotten **** the last two years.
peter jackson deserved best director, i dont care if you hated the movies or not, directing three long, complcated movies at the same time, while trying to stay true to some of the most popular books to come out in the last 50 years, isnt very easy.
and i do think it was better then last samurai.
the only thing i didnt like about the movie, was how long it was the secong time i say it.
im glad sophia copolla got something, and i was already glad to have her nominated for best director(first american women to ever be nominated ever) but lost in translation won a ton at the Indy sprit awards, which almost makes up for it.
i didnt actully watch the awards allthough i wouldnt to, but as long i know what happend, i dont really care. award shows are boring |

I was happy with this years academy awards I think it was better than previous year which is the truth. Billy Crstyal was funny this year and that opening movie was just plain funny! A little scary, but funny! His singing voice was okay, kinda broadway. I think LotR deserved all the awards it got, and I think the academy payed them their dues because the last two years, they've been ignored except the visual awards like graphics and all. I was upset that none of the cast was nominated for an award I think Sean Austin really deserved a nomination, he was really good in the last one, way better than Elijah Wood.
Jack Black and Will Farrel's song was funny as well... you're boring!!!! HAHAHA, it was really funny. All the songs that were performed were amusing especially that jazz one, I liked that song. |

| I find it awesome that LOTR won best movie, I honestly think it deserved that award. Although. 11 awards was a little TOO much, they sort of exagerrated it. The musical preformances were really humorous as well. I, too was upset that the cast of LOTR was not nominated for any awards, some of the actors really deserved it. Other than that, the Oscars went REALLY well in quite a long time, there really isn't much to complain about in my opinion. |

I was extremely dissapointed. Don't get me wrong, I loved the whole LotR triology, but I definitely think the academy sold out a bit. Oscars are supposed to go to the truly great pieces of cinema that should go down in history for being innovative in acting, cinematography, and directing. RotK deserved nominations for those 11 awards, but it certainly didn't deserve to win the majority.
For instance, Best Picture. I think anyone who has seen Mystic River and Lost in Translation will agree that both of those movies were better. Last Samurai was also very good, but didn't get nominated, I assume, because it was so much like a past big oscar name, Dances With Wolves. I was also dissapointed when it came to Best Actor. I really liked Mystic River and Sean Penn, but I still think Bill Murray's performance in Lost in Translation was simply jaw-dropping compared to Sean Penn. The subtleties that he made in his acting, that Sofia brought out and focused on--mannerisms, facial expressions, etc--gave his character such realism that isn't seen much in movies today.
Best Director, I think, also shouldn't have gone to Peter Jackson. He's a great director who I have upmost respect for, but with such a high-budget movie, you'd be surprised how hard it is for the director to NOT do a good job. Instead, focus on the great job done by Sofia Coppola. Lost in Translation was filmed in a mere 27 days on a very small budget, and yet was one of the single best movies I've ever seen in terms of cinematography and directing. If there is a gene for directing, I think Miss Sophie got it from her dad Francis Ford.
I think RotK should have gotten all of the smaller awards like Costuming, Makeup, and Sound, just because those were done so well in the movie. I just got upset that the movie that was clearly not the best movie got too much recognition, while other movies didn't get their chance to get the glory they deserve. |

I hate the fact that the academy collapsed under fan pressure. I mean very few fantasy or science-fcition films win the big awards like Best Picture because they can't match up to real life.
I agree LOTR: ROTK was the worst of the three movies and didn't deserve the 11 oscars it ended up with.
I was also astounded at the lack of nominations in the animated category - only three films!! Brother Bear, Finding Nemo and that odd french one. No wonder Finding Nemo won. What about the underrated Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas? There must have been more animated movies than that in 2003. |

Well, after I noticed the pattern in LOTR winning every category, I turned the tube off. It also seemed like every musical performance was some song from the Cold Mountain soundtrack... Did anybody actually go see that movie?
Two good things though, Blake Edwards receiving the Honorary Academy Award and Jack Black + Will Ferrel = classic |
