SPOILERS -- If you haven't seen the film, don't read ahead.
Well, I saw it yesterday and it blew my mind, A great movie in my opinion, best so far this year aside from THE PIANIST.
On to the point of my thread. I post at the RottenTomatoes forums, and there has been a debate raging as to wether or the characters had any worth after finding out they weren't real. Some say yes, others say no. For me, I still loved Amanda Peet's character and it hurt to see her get axed in the end. =/
Also, if all of the people were in his head, and one of the personalities was killing the rest, who is he on trial for murdering in real life?
They were killed by him at the hotel, they explained it a bit when they were first going over the photos in the beginning when the dude was listening to the interview tapes.

I don't see how this movie could be entertaining to anyone who thinks rationally.

The boys persona is the one who, using the guys body, killed the people he's put to death for.
Der.
Well no **** sherlock. Everyone who saw the movie knows that much. That wasn't my question. My question is, where, when and how did he murder the people he's on trial for, in real life. They allude to it, but I never heard a good explanation.
I believe they mentioned a few details at the very beginning, and I think they said the murders took place at that very hotel.
On a different subject, I had some fun figuring out who all of the alter-ego's represented as facets of his personality. Here's what I've got:
Prostitute (Amanda Peat): A reflection of his hatred for his mother's prostitution, hence the reason he killed her last, completing the destruction of all of his demons.
Ex-Cop (Jon Cusack): This being the most prominent of his characters, besides the kid, of course, I felt this represented what he might have been if not scarred by his childhood. Mainly, dedicated to justice, sickened by murder, a good moral character. But completely screwed up by isolation.
Mother From the Car Accident: Plain and simple. What he always yearned for in a mother. Protective and loving.
Husband of Character From Above: Valiant, obsessive and loving. My guesses are that this was the original form of the child's character after abandonment. Just as this character recited the car manual stuff after the accident, the child character recited his poem many times during his loneliness. Side Note: This character was my favorite. Saaaaad.
Prison Convict #1 (Baseball Bat Guy): Absolutely out of his head. The projection of homicidal tendencies and insanity.
Prison Convict #2 (Ray Leota): Deceptive, but calculating. I feel this is the manifestation of the true murderous side of the character. My belief is that he went about his murders just as he did in the dream, by system and with cunning stealth. This is the professional killer.
Larry, the "Hotel Manager": The purely instinct driven side of the character. He is innocent in motive and stricken by poverty. Childish and easily amused, the reflection of a normal child, in many ways. But he also expresses an immense hatred for prostitutes, keeping the theme of contempt for the child's mother.
Girl Who Said She Was Pregnant: Simply put, a cry for attention. She was emotionally overloaded and begging by drastic means to be noticed.
Husband of Above Character: Going past means of attention-seeking, this character is focused on greed. This was the character I felt most loosely fit the murderer. *shrug* We didn't get much insight to him anyways.
The Movie Star: Actually, this is the character that most loosely fits the murderer. Any clues or personal thoughts?
The Child: *shudders* This is the basis of raw insanity and blood-thirsty revenge. I'm not going into too much detail cuz this kid scared the sh*t outta me.
u know, u coulda searched somewhere for their names. Convic #1 is Jake Busey.
Movie Wise: HOLY MOTHER OF......twist and turns left and right. I was like "hmmm.....hes the killer....no, hes got a bat down his throat. AH HA, Its vercetti......yea, cool." then the end *shocked* The only thing that was confusing is: Why wasnt Amanda Peet naked? shes been naked in every movie (almost) :'(
