I'm looking for a new book to read. A fantasy/adventure book set in a futuristic-but-not-so-futuristic world (think FFVII).
What would you recommend me? |

| For fantasy/adventure stuff check out the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. The best books ever. |

Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. And when it has gone past me I will turn and see fear's path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Hmm, I dunno if it's what you're looking for, but find the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman. *Nods* Very good. Though I haven't read the third one yet |

If you want futuristic fantasy you could try The Coldfire Trilogy by C. S. Friedman. The first book is "Black Sun Rising".
(I got this quotation from Amazon)
"For over a thousand years, the colonists of the planet Erna have struggled to gain control over a land prone to seismic instability and infused with a wild, near-sentient natural force known as "the fae." While sorcerers and adepts manipulate the dark and light sides of this power, the Church maintains its stance in opposition to its use. As the dark side of the fae grows in strength, feeding off the nightmares and greed of the minds that are drawn to it, four individuals form an unwilling alliance to battle the source of evil. Friedman has produced a splendid hybrid of sf and fantasy in this first volume of a trilogy. Hauntingly memorable protagonists, high drama, and vivid world-building mark the beginning of what promises to be a magnum opus of the imagination. A priority purchase for fantasy or sf collections."
All the other books mentioned are good as well but Coldfire is more futuristic than them I think. |

| Indeed, Lye speaks the truth, Ursula Le Guin's The Wizard of Earthsea series (There are five books now) is excellent. There is another series Assassin's Apprentice, that is also excellent, but I can't remember the author... and I think that is actually only the title of the first book. But they do all have Assassin's something-or-other as the title... |

| Mjollnir, you're thinking of the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. I agree, it's a fantastic series and Fitz is one of my favourite characters of all time. There's a new series about Fitz out now, it's called "The Tawny Man" series. If you liked the Farseer Trilogy check out The Liveship Traders by Hobb. It's set in the same world but with different characters and it's written in thired persin rather than first. |
