Know of any kick ass bands that are just waiting for a record signing? Or perhaps some band that was perhaps never meant for the Mainstream, but they kick your ass, anyway? (In my opinion, those bands are often times better than the crap you get on Mtv. In fact, that's what I think of MOST underground stuff, a common opinion, though. Heh.)
One band I really love that's breaking through now is the Ataris. They just got signed to Sony Records, or something, so I guess they're not small anymore. However, after the first week of their new CD's release, their CD's mysteriously vanished from Target. I guess Target is too tight-ass to accept anything that won't necessarily break the Top 40. But don't let that fool you; this band kicks ass. They're a band for the fans, and they always have been. Their roots are in punk rock, though they've become a bit more poppy over time. Either that, or they always have been pop punk. Which is fine by me. I think with their new album, they might've taken on a more mellow tone than their last album (which is my favorite) but it still kicks ass. The name of this CD is called "So Long Austoria." The other one is called "End is Forever." That one's my favorite. Their second one is called "Blue Skys, Broken Hearts... Next Twelve Exits." I can't find the first one, and I don't remember what its called, but its probably at their site. www.ataris.com Fat Mike's favorite band (Y'know, the lead singer of NoFX) Anyways....
On to an actual small time band. VERY small time. As in, they're pretty pathetic right now. Heh. Actually, they're pretty cool. They're my brother's band, Remaining Men Together. (I did their mascot, Tyler the Bear. I'd say it was a work of perfection... but its not. Heh.) www.ihatermt.us They got some pretty funny stuff to read there. If you live in the Bay Area, perhaps you could get them to play a show, if you wanted to... I have not seen them play live, but their demos are kinda iffy. Although they've grown on me quite a bit. I think I'm being a bit too harsh and unrealistic, cuz my brother was in a christian band before that had a recording studio and everything that made them sound real pretty. That band broke up, and these are the fruits of his most recent efforts. Enjoy.
Anyways, this post is going on a bit too long. I don't wanna scare anyone away with a long, bland post like this, so if you have any cool bands to support, do so. I wanna hear some good underground music, y'know. Anyways... |

I look at Mars Volta, AFI, and The Ataris are all on the verge of gaining recognition some way or another.
I thought the same of Taking Back Sunday and what do you know....they're pretty big. |

-The Ataris are AWESOME!!! I love them!
-There are a few friends of mine who are in bands. They are on a local website called www.stlpunk.com . You can check them out of you want. I'm friends with the drummer of Maralyn High and the rythym guitarist of Ages 4 & Up. Some other great bands on that website are Narcoleptic Barking Squirrles, High Relief, Supervillan Zero, and 13 Lo Kei. You can type the names of the bands into the search box at the top, left hand side of the screen. |
