I also live in Australia.. but we make up the day by throwing a really big party with relatives and that.. we often organize it like it's actually Thanksgiving Day... hehe..

That about sums it up for me. I'm not big on holidays. Or family for that matter. I'm in it for the food. Personally I see no point in Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, or any other holidays.
