Does the media sensationalise emotional events in order to captivate its audience ..to get better ratings or boost newspaper sales....?
The television stations and newspapers are the worse culprits...of course we need to be informed but to the extreme extents to which they portray it....?
And in big court cases..how can 12 men and women be found to give people a fair trial....i would be very suprised if they are not a little bit influenced ...or caught a snippet of a column or tv programme with different points of view...and therefore influencing them.....
What do people think....? |

i think that some chanels such as sky news are fine, but newspapers are the worst!..
for example, in the holly wells and jessica chapman, they were offering up to £1,000,000 for the boddies! this would mean them geting the bodies and the parents not! its just dispicable, and i think they made the situation a lot worse for the parents and family's ... |

The Media has effected today's modern world, there are a lot of people out there who can't even comprehend how the Media has it's little finger wrapped around them.
The battle between the Tabloids has seen some of the extreme cases in history. Although there is a body known as the Press Complaints Comission that people can turn too if they feel a newspaper company has invaded their privacy, not many companies fear it.
Tabloids make everything extrememist, they exaggerated it. Tabloids are aimed at the working class, and they hype up news to interest their readers, however Tabloids rely on promotions and Page 3 Girl's to keep their audiences, price-cuts etc are common because the Tabloids are always in competition with each other.
Broadsheets are aimed at upper class people, and tell things how they are. However Broadsheets focus more on international affairs than the Tabloids.
The news that is in Tabloids and Broadsheets vary due to their target audiences. Tabloids will go to extremist lengths to bag an exclusive story.
The whole of the Media Industry is one of the largest infactuating bodies in the world.
Through TV stereotypes are created, as are judgements on other people. Women feel as if they have to look like a super-slim size 8 super model because that is what the TV Industry portrays as the ideal woman. The Media portrays attitudes and appearances, and like mugs our race copy what the TV show's us. People always try to look like their role-models, be like them etc.
Even through Radio we are influenced, because even if we can't see the people on the air, we often immitate them.
You may not realize it, but the media has it's little finger wrapped around every single one of us. The media can practically say go out and throw tomatoes at Roy Keane, and the whole public would do it without even thinking.
What's cool, and what's not. That is decided by the media. The media lures you in and then traps you and you can't escape.. you may not think about it when you watching/reading/listening, but the media always sends out subtle little messages that you subconsicously pick up on without realizing.
News is portrayed on how the company present it sees it as. You may think they are telling it as it is, but they are showing you what they think is good and bad, and you agree with it without even realizing.
I got a grade A in Media Studies for GCSE and I'm continuing with it at A Level. You learn a lot about the Media, and how much of an influence it has over the people of the world today. I could honestly go on and on about this subject. But I'd like other people to voice themselves. |

I think some forms of media are all right personally.. I like Tom Browcaw from NBC. There is something about that man that just screams, "NEWWS NEWWWS!!!". I also like the local news, and think they do a great job keeping the community informed of local events. Not all media is bad..
But yes, Mass media/tabloids are horrible and must be destroyed. A musical artists has a very entertaining song about mass media..
KOMPRESSOR - DESTROY MASS MEDIA. |

The media makes everything look so dramatic, and worse then it really is - for example, the United States economy. |

| I hate local news, they interrupted the T-Bone episode of Seinfeld for some redneck who stole a car and threatened to jump off a bridge. The death of stupidity is the metaphorical cleaning of the gene pool, and I don't want to miss possible entertainment for news on some man I will never meet, will never care about, who delays himself, the police, and tax dollars, and doesn't even jump. Our local anchors are so corny too! Always starting off a story with something totally inappropriate and unrelated, just so they have a fancy lead-in, it's ridiculous. They always throw in some sort of cliff hanger to save their ratings: "A hosuehold product could be killing you and your children that you're consuming at this very moment, stay tuned for details." God damn, learn how to broadcast, this isn't a play or a poem, it's news, meant to be delivered, not dressed up and spun in the media machine so much we don't even really know what the hell it is when it's spit out by uneducated journalists who've done more sitting behind a desk than any field work in their life. Most self-proclaimed unbiased and working man's reporters are closet conservatives anyway. It's rare you find real news. Most details of stories are neglected or misleading, just for the sake of public opinion. The media is a joke, none of these people are trying to win any type of Pulitzer anymore, it's all about money and bull****, and as they keep shoveling it into radio and TV, America keeps lapping it up. |

Like during Kidnappings the media only reports on the beautiful nice young girls but theres soo many more that go un reported......
The media beefs things up to a certain degree for ratings i believe to increase their moneyflow. |

I find it ironic that my mother works for the media in her newspaper articles and her radio show she does and the TV show she did before but I don't like it very much. I quite distrust the media actually... just like I don't trust the government too much.
True, they do provide entertainment and the news and things, but really, what can you trust on TV? Anything there could be fake... I am especially distrustful of commercials and advertisements. Any product could be made to look incredible and only for a very cheap price, but really, does it work in real life? I dunno. And how many times has the media lied or written/shown all kinds of stupid or scandelous o rwhatever type of thing on TV/radio? Some shows are utterly rediculous and should really be scrapped.
I guess it sums up to the fact that I just don't trust things very easiliy... it is difficult for me to do so. |
