This has probobly been done before, although not recently. I was curious as to how some of the patrons of this forum feel about religion, and the specifics of what they see in their choice, or their ideals when it comes to the teachings of certain faiths. Personally the values and theories of buddhism intrigue me. It's more or less a more insightful Puratin-like religion without all the corny christian background. All flames aside, I'd like to get your thoughts on the subject, and learn a little bit more about different people's concept of religion.

I really wish I knew more about religion. I'm always afraid that my not being learned in their history or doctrines will get me in trouble when I shoot off my mouth...
My mother was raised a Lutheran and my father Catholic. Needless to say, practicing religion became a burden when they both held jobs and had to juggle three kids. So neither me nor my siblings have been raised with a specific faith.
I have ALWAYS been fascinated with religion. It raises as many boundless questions as it produces beauty in music, art, and literature. I often find myself striving to study other cultures, myths, and religions. I harbor an insatiable thirst for it.
However, I must admit that many aspects of particular religions have frightened me of late. For example, I recently stumbled upon a rather hateful website... Hard to sleep at night when there are people out there who think you need to be exterminated...
So yeah... It's like a detached, third-person, conscientious observer type of thing in my case. With religion, I mean. But I just can't seem to get enough of it!

I'm the opposite of Xeno. I was raised on so much religion it made me sick. Religion forces you to live your life in a way that makes it no longer your life. All in fear that some invisible being is gonna punish you. Don't get me wrong, I believe in God. But I believe he abandoned us on this ****ed-up world. He cares nothing for us, only that we do as he says. **** God!! I don't care if I go straight to Hell, I won't worship a God that ****s us like that. **** that. Sorry for sounding harsh, but I feel like I've been ****ed over by my so-called God too many times. I hope I didn't offend no one, but this is my opinion. If ya got a problem with it, go pray for me. Like he's actually listening.

I totally understand where you're coming from, Winter. But I think God, assuming He DOES exist, is not quite as twisted as you think. I think that the image of an all-encompassing, power-driven Ruler Entity was impressed upon Him by the very people that worship Him. The FEAR of God is what often drives people to "obey" him. Am I wrong?
Anyway, I think it's the people out there that are f***ed up! Anyone who thinks that an honest person doesn't deserve a life is just plain sick.

I am a practicing Catholic. I have been going to Catholic Schools all my life. I am not sick of it but sometimes i do. But praying to God really helps you out in the tough times and he sometimes helps you and you never realize it. So i try to pray and live a religous life (i usually don't) but that just the way i am.

Maybe you're right, Xeno. I guess I shouldn't give opinions about God, based on his follower's opinions. I think maybe my problem isn't God but religion. Religions are usually hypocritical in their ways. I've had friends that follow blindly, just doing what a church states w/o thinking. I guess my issue is why doesn't God bring a change to things, if they are not his ways.

Well, I'm an agnostic, to begin with I used to be a Christian, but after thinking about it for a while, I changed my ways ^^

My opinions on religion in general? OK, first of all, if anyone gets offended by this, then I shall have to kick your arse because I'm going to state right now and here that this isn't meant to offend anyone and is just my own opinion ^^; I don't think I should have to say it, but some people are just really... jumpy lately =x

Anyway, I think organized religion in general is pretty arse ^^ At least, most of the ones I know about. Mostly because it has so many of its own set rules, set... everything 0.o I feel religion should be your own personal thing and you can believe in whatever you like.

Taking Christianity, for example, because I used to be a Christian. There's so much hypocrisy in there I can't even begin to express it all, and even though it can teach a lot of good morals, the 'bad' things about it really doesn't merge with me ^^ The fact that so many people use it to justify how homosexuality is wrong, or how people tell you that you're going to hell unless you convert. And so on. I don't agree with a lot of its views, and I really really hate it when people constantly try to convert me after I tell them to respect my own religion.

I don't hate Christians though, because most of them are awesome people ^_~ I just don't like the religion, and a lot of other religions like it in general.

Although I was baptised as a Christian I disregard that and consider myself to be a member of no religon, but of FATE. There is no worship or story about this 'religon'. Simply put, it's believing in nothing, but the way of the world.

Religon is just a way I see to control people, how do you think all those things were crowned...? It was their "divine" right..eh? It all depends on your experiences, I will not slander any religon.
